PS....Our favorite guy, Santa Claus, made it into South Carolina last night shortly after 11 pm EST and was spotted just south of us in Charleston.  Some of us tried to wait up to catch a glimpse, but it seems that we missed him again this year....we hope that you had better luck than we did!

Caravelle Resort Named as Title Sponsor for Coastal Carolina University Baseball Tournaments

Coastal_Carolina_Chanticleers.gifAfter a trip to the NCAA Division 1 baseball tournament and the Super Regional finals and the most successful year in school history in 2008, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are set to take the field in 2009 for another exciting season.

The Caravelle Resort is proud to continue our relationship with the "Chants" in support of their run at another Big South conference baseball championship and NCAA glory.  As a proud supporter of Coastal Carolina baseball, the Caravelle has been named title sponsor for TWO tournaments this upcoming season, including the season opening tournament February 20-22.  This first Caravelle Resort Tournament will pit the Chants versus Kentucky, Southern Illinois and James Madison.  The second Caravelle Resort Tournament will match the Chants against the likes of Albany, IPFW, Stony Brook and Creighton on the weekend of March 6-8 at Watson Stadium at CCU.

We are thrilled to be a part of another action packed season of Chants baseball, and highly recommend all Caravelle baseball fans trying to fit a game or two into their schedule.  After having three players from the 2008 team drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft, the Chants bring back some great talent, including Team USA player Scott Woodward and a second preseason player of the year candidate, David Anderson.

Gas Really Is Affordable Again!

Sam's Club gas price

After a long year for everyone's pocketbooks, there seems to be at least a glimmer of light through all of the craziness in the economy.....it's affordable to drive again.  While we still wish that the price at the pumps fell relative to the price of oil nearly as fast as they rose, we are rejoicing that it is finally possible to fill a normal gas tank for under $40.

We have been fortunate in Myrtle Beach for gas prices to be low relative to the national average throughout the crisis, and we are thrilled that South Carolina's gas prices are currently the 7th lowest in the nation.  We took a handful of snapshots of some fuel prices over the past couple of days and you see the lowest and highest prices that we found in our short drive.  The member clubs, Sam's Club and Costco not surprisingly came in lowest and well.....we won't name the highest culprit.

Costco of Myrtle Beach Gas Prices

The best news through all of this for all of our friends who stay with us is that many of our special offers have reflected the state of the prices at the pumps and the economy at large, so in many cases even in spite of the rising gas prices, many folks have been able to spend less to get to Myrtle Beach and stay with us in 2008 for less than it cost in 2007.  And this is a great time to head to the beach with our room rates being at their most affordable point all year long.
