Paws in the Park Softball Tournament

The Ripken Experience is hosting the Inaugural Paws in the Park Softball Tournament to benefit Grand Strand Humane Society.

The Ripken Experience/Myrtle Beach is going to the dogs for one weekend next month. The Grand Strand Humane Society will hold its inaugural Paws in the Park softball tournament on September 9-10 at the world-class baseball facility located in beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC.

Paws in the Park will be a co-ed tournament and played by Chicago-style (16 inch softball) rules. Two tournament brackets are offered in the tournament; one for competitive play and the other for recreation. Space is limited to 24 teams and 14 players per team. Each team is guaranteed play in three games. The winners will be awarded trophies and every team will receive a plaque, a certificate, and lunch catered by Cheeseburger in Paradise on Saturday September 10.

The tournament begins with a mandatory manager's meeting on Friday at Cheeseburger in Paradise at 4:30 p.m. A silent auction will also begin during the meeting which will feature bidding on sports memorabilia, restaurant gift certificates, and gift certificates from the Comedy Cabana. Included in the auction is a chance for one night's stay in the penthouse suite at Island Vista located right on the ocean in Myrtle Beach.

Official play starts shortly after the manager's meetings at The Ripken Experience with first pitch thrown at 7:00 p.m. Games start the following day at 9:00 a.m. with the championship game scheduled at 4:00 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday September 11 if play is suspended.

Entry fee checks to play should be made payable to Grand Strand Humane Society for $350.00 by August 10 and mailed to Grand Strand Humane Society, Att: Amy DuPre, 3241 Mr. Joe White Avenue, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. All proceeds will go to Grand Strand Humane Society for their continued endeavor to help shelter, feed, and provide medical for the unwanted, abused, and abandoned animals of Myrtle Beach.

The Ripken Experience is a world-class amateur baseball complex located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Featuring three regulation-sized diamonds and five youth fields, they are designed to mimic historic major league ballparks such as Ebbets Field and Shibe Park.
