The Market Common Synthetic Ice Skating Rink Returns in 2010

The Market Common welcomes the popular 2009 synthetic ice skating rink attraction to Valor Park again in 2010.

The rink will be set up in Valor Park from Dec. 18 - Jan. 2, open each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.

Skaters will be charged $7 to use the rink, which includes ice skate rentals and skating time. All proceeds will be donated to The Red Cross. Complimentary ice skating vouchers will be given to customers for every $50 spent at Market Common stores and restaurants through January.

Officials at Market Common say the synthetic rink is environmentally friendly and does not require electricity or water, making it ideal for the area's warm climate. The synthetic ice consists of a plastic polymer that resembles the consistency of the world's largest white cutting board.

With synthetic ice, skate blades release lubricants in the rink, which gives skaters the feeling of skating on natural ice.
