Myrtle Beach Area Chamber Announces Details of Memorial Day Weekend Activities
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce announces the details of the activities planned for May 29, 2010 Memorial Day Weekend celebration. Please note the change in location of concerts and meet-and-greets.
Ceremony Honoring Dr. Buzz Aldrin Dr. Buzz Aldrin, former NASA astronaut and US Air Force veteran, will be honored at a ceremony from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29 in downtown Myrtle Beach on Ocean Blvd. between 8th & 9th Avenues North. Highlights of the ceremony include a performance by the Carolina Master Chorale, recognition of wounded military veterans from Walter Reed Memorial Hospital, presentation of a resolution honoring Dr. Buzz Aldrin by the South Carolina General Assembly and remarks by Dr. Aldrin.
Parade Schedule Following the ceremony, the Memorial Day Weekend parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at Ocean Boulevard in downtown Myrtle Beach at 27th Avenue North and proceed southbound to 9th Avenue North. The parade will end at approximately 12:30 p.m. Following the parade, Envision will perform from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and several high school bands marching in the parade will perform from 2 - 4 p.m. between 8th & 9th Avenues North on Ocean Blvd. in downtown Myrtle Beach.
Celebrity Appearances Dr. Buzz Aldrin will serve as the parade's grand marshal. Other celebrities appearing in the parade include Savannah Outen from Radio Disney, Tiffany Thornton, "Tawni" on Sonny with a Chance and Jasmine Richards, "Peggy" on Camp Rock. Cartoon characters appearing in the parade include Marvel's Hulk and Iron Man and Milestone's Garfield, Classic Batman, Funshine Care Bear and Pink Panther. Most celebrities and cartoon characters will be participating in free meet and greets throughout the afternoon.
WMBF News is proud to announce that NBC soap stars?Lindsay Hartley (Arianna Hernandez) and Eric Martsolf (Brady Black)?of ?Days of Our Lives? will ride in the parade and will sign autographs during their scheduled meet-and-greets from 3-5 p.m.
Concert Schedule A wide variety of musical talent will give free performances throughout the day. All performances will be between 8th and 9th Avenues North on Ocean Boulevard, including:
12:30-2:00 p.m. ENVISION 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Various High School Marching Bands
