1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival

By Megan Burke

Looking for a fun, family-friendly event to enjoy this spring? If so, pencil in the 1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival, a one-day only event scheduled for April 13th, 2019.

1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival

This exciting event is truly unlike anything that’s ever come to the beach! For one night only, Grand Park at The Market Common will come to life with hundreds of glowing water lanterns. The entire park will be radiating with light, music, love, and laughter, which makes the event a perfect outing for families and couples alike! Each guest will have the opportunity to decorate their own floating water lantern—the lantern and decorating kit are included with the ticket price. The festival will also feature live music from local musicians, yard games like cornhole and giant Jenga, and food trucks from local purveyors. And, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated right back to the Myrtle Beach community.

Gates for the festival will open promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the entire event will run from 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., festival attendees will have the opportunity to launch their personalized lanterns into the water and watch as they come to life. The last hour of the festival is truly magical as the sun sets and everyone’s lanterns dance across the water.

While you’re in the area, take some time to explore everything else that The Market Common has to offer! This upscale, outdoor district is a mecca for shopping, dining, and entertainment. For families, check out Savannah’s Playground, Myrtle Beach’s first ADA-friendly park, and EdVenture, the area’s brand new children’s museum. Or, for couples, enjoy a little friendly competition with bowling at 810 or catch a flick at the Grand 14 movie theater.

Be sure to snag tickets early, as this event always sells out in other cities!

Currently, tickets are only $13 for children, $20 for adults, and $35 for VIP access; children under the age of 10 are free. However, prices are set to increase in the near future, so get yours now! Also remember that the ticket price includes live entertainment, a donation to a local Myrtle Beach charity, a water lantern, and the lantern decorating kit—making it a great value!

If you’re traveling from out of town, be sure to also book a room early for the weekend. We offer several resorts within a short drive of The Market Common area. We like to recommend Crown Reef Resort and Captain’s Quarters Resort for families and Hotel Blue for couples. You can also peruse our resort specials page and snag a great deal for your stay!
