9 Best Water Activities in Myrtle Beach

By Julia Diem

A Myrtle Beach vacation is not complete without spending at least a little time on the water. After all, that’s what a vacation by the ocean is all about. Regardless of your idea of the best time to visit Myrtle Beach, there’s always a water activity you can enjoy.

Whether it’s the fun of driving a jet ski across the water or a seagull’s view of the beach from a parasail, a portion of time spent on the water could well be the part of your vacation you remember best.

With so many different things to choose from, we’ve narrowed down the list to our favorite water activities, many of which offer discounts and specials by VMB Card partners.

Let’s make a splash with the best water activities in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for you to enjoy on your next vacation.

Parasailing

Looking for thrills? One of the most exciting things you can do while staying at one of our Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts is to spend some time being towed behind a boat while you’re soaring several hundred feet in the air. Get strapped into your harness and lifted off from the back of the parasailing boat.

From this vantage point, you’ll get great views of the vast Atlantic Ocean and the Grand Strand coastline.

Jet Skiing

Jet ski rides are an extremely popular water activity for people vacationing in Vacation Myrtle Beach hotels, whether on the ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, or exploring the reaches of the Waccamaw River.

If you’ve not tried it before, driving a jet ski is a lot easier than you might think. You’ll get full instructions when you pick up your jet ski and will be wearing a life jacket with a kill cord around your wrist.

If you want to add in a little sightseeing with your jet ski ride, you can instead go on a dolphin jet ski tour with Myrtle Beach Watersports.

Fishing

Fishing is an obvious choice for a water activity in Myrtle Beach. Calabash Fishing Fleet is based at Calabash on the Little River inlet just over the North Carolina border across from North Myrtle Beach. You can spend a few hours fishing for anything from sea bass to sharks in the Navigator, which is equipped with the most modern features including the latest fishing electronics.

The company offers a number of different fishing alternatives. From deep sea fishing charters to ones just offshore in the inlet, there are plenty of family-friendly tours to choose from. Make sure to take advantage of your Myrtle Beach discounts card to get a special deal.

If you’re an experienced angler, it’s also possible to get your own boat rental and take yourself on a fishing trip but if you’re new to the area, a local guy can certainly show you all of the best spots to drop a line.

Kayaking or Paddleboarding

Kayaking or paddleboarding on the many waterways and rivers in the Myrtle Beach area will give you a totally different view of the coastal environment. With VMB partner J&L Kayaking you can take a romantic moonlight kayaking tour or take a crabbing tour where you can go back to your condo with a fresh-caught dinner!

Surfing

Surfing is something pretty much everyone has entertained the thought of learning how to do at some point so why not take the opportunity on your Myrtle Beach vacation? With Kokepelli Surf Camp you can take surf lessons from knowledgeable instructors who will help you safely learn how to ride the waves. They’re helpful regardless of your experience level. Plus with your VMB card you can get $5 off any lesson!

Dolphin Tours

No matter the season, dolphin tours are always the perfect family-friendly thing to do in Myrtle Beach. On a dolphin cruise, you’ll get the chance to spot dolphins in their natural habitat. With so many dolphins in this area, sightings are really common and with some tours, it’s even guaranteed!

Most dolphin tours are hosted on pontoon boats so you can expect a nice and relaxing boat ride as you search for dolphins and maybe even sea turtles.

Banana Boat Rides

When the weather is hot and a splash in the ocean is calling, there’s no better way to hop right in than on a banana boat ride! If you haven’t seen this before, a banana boat is a type of tube that’s shaped like, well, a banana! It’s pulled behind a speedboat, making sure you get a taste of adrenaline as you bounce over the waves.

Swimming

And last, but certainly not least, swimming is by far the most popular watersport in Myrtle Beach. And it’s not just swimming in the ocean you’ll get to enjoy. By staying at one of our oceanfront resorts like Captain’s Quarters, you’ll also have swimming pools, a lazy river, and a kids’ waterpark to enjoy. The places to swim are really limitless if you choose the correct place to stay!
