FAQ: When Can I Ride Horses on the Beach?

By Megan Burke

horses on the beach in Myrtle Beach

In Horry County, which includes North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach and other areas not incorporated into a municipality, horses are only allowed on the beaches from November through February.

But some of those areas also have their own regulations.

Within the city limits of Myrtle Beach horses are allowed from the third Saturday in November until the end of February.

Horses are not allowed on the beach in Surfside Beach, south of Myrtle Beach, at any time of the year.

In Georgetown County horses are allowed on the beach from Sept. 15 through March 15.

If you're looking to ride a horse on the beach and are concerned you won't be able to you can book a horseback ride with Inlet Point Plantation, a VMB Partner. Through them you can ride on the beach at any time of the year because the plantation also includes a private island with beach access.
