Things to Do in Myrtle Beach in May

Hello May! We are welcoming May 2023 with some marvelous things to do in Myrtle Beach. Some 2023 big events this month in May include Cinco de Mayo celebrations, 5K runs, live music events, Pelicans baseball, and a world-famous seafood festival! As summer weather continues to approach these festivals and events are a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the warm Myrtle Beach weather.

 

Ballroom Dance 

  • When: Friday, May 4th 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
  • Where: St. John’s Hall

The Ballroom Dance Preservation Society hosts several events every year. This event is at St. John’s Hall in Myrtle Beach. DJ Steve will spin the tunes, and you can bring your own snacks for your table. Tickets are $14 each. 

 

Groovin' On The Green Concert 

  • When: Fridays, May 5, 12, and 19 from 7:30 pm - 9 pm
  • Where: Downtown Conway, Town Green at 200 Laurel Street 

Conway Downtown Alive will host Groovin’ on the Green, a Friday night concert series, on May 5 - Special Blend Experience, May 12 - The Jebb Mac Band, and May 19 - PaperWork. In addition to a variety of music, Chicora Car Club will host a classic car cruise-in each night with a People’s Choice trophy awarded. 

 

Cinco De Mayo Events

3rd Annual Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

  • When: Friday, May 5 at 11:30 am
  • Where: Sol y Luna Latin Cantina, 4270 River Oaks Dr, Myrtle Beach

Come to the 3rd Annual Sol y Luna Latin Cantina, all-day, indoor & outdoor, Cinco De Mayo Fiesta. The Fiesta will include Carolina Social Bar, all-day live entertainment, food & drink specials, and more! It’s quite a fiesta!

 

Julio and The Saltines Cinco De Mayo Party

  • When: Friday, May 5 at 4 pm
  • Where: Boathouse, 201 Fantasy Harbour Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Come see the popular and local rockers Julio and The Saltines kick the party off on the Waterway stage at 5 pm followed by Crawford & Power from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Crawford & Power are Virginia Natives making a big impression within the country music scene. It’s going to be the biggest Cinco De Mayo Party on the waterway! 

 

Second Chance Prom

  • When: Friday, May 5th from 7 pm - 11 pm
  • Where: Historic Train Depot, 851 Broadway St, Myrtle Beach 

“Second Chance Prom” is back at the Historic Train Depot this Cinco De Mayo. Couples, ages 21 years and older are encouraged to dress up and boogie on the dance floor. Tickets are $40 per couple, which includes entry and dinner catered by Tu Taco. Tickets are on sale through the Yodel app.

 

Cinco De Mayo Party Excursion

  • When: Friday, May 5th at 5:45 pm - 9 pm 
  • Where: Pie-Eyed Parrot Happy Hour Cruise, 4097 Hwy 17 Business, Murrells Inlet

Join the annual Cinco DeMayo Party Excursion aboard the PieEyedParrot “Happy Hour” Cruise. It’s a 90-minute party! Enjoy drinks, music, and spectacular views. Check-in and boarding starts at 5:45 pm, Dockside Party will run 5:45 pm to 7:15 p.m. with the cruise taking place 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm. Myrtle Beach Cinco De Mayo Bar Crawl 

  • When: Friday, May 5th and Saturday, May 6th
  • Where: Various Bars in Myrtle Beach

Join the bar-hopping ritual for a parade of tacos and tequila you won’t forget. Round up friends and get tickets for admission to some of the area’s finest beach bars. At some venues, you’ll get a custom digital map, exclusive drink specials, and live music. You could win prizes in a photo contest, too. 3rd Annual Fiesta 5K and Taco Dash

  • When: Saturday, May 6th at 7 am
  • Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery in North Myrtle Beach

Join the 3rd Annual FIESTA 5K at Barefoot Landing. Runners, Walkers, and Strollers are all welcome! 5K race participants receive a custom-designed participant shirt along with a finisher medal. This race will cap at 400 participants. The 5K race begins at 7 am followed by post-race goodies and awards. They've added a Free Kids' Taco Dash (50 yards) to get little kids involved! There is also a virtual option for those not able to participate in person. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for additional prizes!

Pancakes and Penguins 

  • When: Saturday, May 6th at 8 am
  • Where: Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, 1110 Celebrity Circle

Rise and shine! Start your day with a Pancakes and Penguins breakfast! Enjoy a hot breakfast of eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. By attending you get to explore the Ripley’s Aquarium before it opens to the public and head into the Penguin Playhouse to meet and take a picture with the African penguins. Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 6th, gates open at 10 am 
  • Where: Lot next to 1st Ave. S Main Street and 1st Avenue S., in North Myrtle Beach

Make plans to attend the 6th Annual “Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival.” The stage will be outside in the parking lot between Main Street and First Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach. Scheduled to perform are Rivermist, Band of Oz, T. Graham Brown, and Jim Quick & Coastline. The emcee will be CBMA Hall of Fame DJ, Chad Sain along with the Surf DJs/Show hosts. Chairs and coolers are permitted. This event is rain or shine.

 

Sun Fun Parade

  • When: Saturday, May 6th at 10 am 
  • Where: Plyler Park, 1100 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Come watch the Sun Fun Parade as it travels from 8th Avenue North to 16th Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach! 

 

Spring Live Music Series Prom

  • When: Every Friday 5 pm - 8 pm and Saturday 2 pm - 5 pm throughout the month of May
  • Where: Barefoot Landing, 4898-A Hwy. 17 S. North Myrtle Beach 

The Spring Live Music Series continues through May. Various local groups of all genres will perform on the Pepsi Stage in Dockside Village at Barefoot Landing. Grab a complimentary chair (while supplies last) or bring your own and settle in for free entertainment before or after enjoying dinner at one of Barefoot Landing’s many restaurants.

 

Motown Tribute Show-Motor City Musical 

  • When: Saturday, May 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 8 pm 
  • Where: GTS Theatre, 1220 Port Drive, Myrtle Beach

Come celebrate 60 + years of Motown Music with an evening of soulful entertainment, as you go on a musical journey through the history of Motown. Motown is a genre that broke down social barriers and infused music of the 60's and 70's with life and rhythm. 

 

Brookgreen Gardens Spring Wine Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 13 at 1 pm 
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens, 1931 Brookgreen Dr, Murrells Inlet

Come attend the 3rd Annual food and wine event at Brookgreen Gardens!  Enjoy wine tastings and live music in the Oak Grove near Pegasus. An event wristband includes admission to the Spring Wine Festival event and 10 tasting tickets. Additional tickets are available for purchase for wine tastings, games, and other activities.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball 

  • When: Ongoing through September
  • Where: TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark

May will be packed with Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball. Join the fans at TicketReturn.com Field to cheer on the Pelicans and enjoy a family night out.

Lobster Dogs-Smoke on the Beach

  • When: Friday, May 19 from 3 pm – 9 pm and Saturday, May 20 from 10 am - 6 pm 
  • Where: Lobster Dogs-Food Truck, 812 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Calling all lobster lovers! Lobster Dogs Food truck travels all around South Carolina, serving the best lobster rolls and stuffed avocados in South Carolina. They are scheduled to be on Ocean Boulevard for two days. Come enjoy lobster rolls, live music, BBQ competition, and a car show. 

 

World Famous Blue Crab Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 20 and Sunday May 21,  9 am - 5 pm 
  • Where: Historic Little River Waterfront

Join the 41st Annual World Famous Blue Crab Festival, one of the largest festivals in the Southeast. It's consistently been awarded the Best Annual Event/Festival on the Grand Strand for 8 years. Bring your family & friends to enjoy fresh, local seafood from a waterfront restaurant or get your favorite festival food fix. Spring Myrtle Beach Bike Week

  • When: Friday, May 12 - Sunday, May 21, 2023
  • Where: Various locations throughout Myrtle Beach 

For the annual Bike Week, the Grand Strand becomes a hotspot for motorcycle enthusiasts and cruisers. Each rally includes tons of bike shows, area tours, vendors, and much more.

 

Spring Block Party- Golden Egg Hunt

  • When: Saturday, May 13 from 11 am - 3 pm
  • Where: St. James Place at The Wellness Bar: 3565 Fountain Lane, and Lekker Eats: 3590 St. James Avenue, Myrtle Beach

Come for a free family afternoon event at St. James Square. Come enjoy local vendors, hop down the inflatable slide for free, live music, face painting, and golden egg hunt for adults. Golden eggs are stuffed with prizes from local businesses and vendors!

 

Brookgreen Gardens Memorial Day Weekend Run

  • When: Sunday, May 28 at 6 pm
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens

Join the 10th Annual Brookgreen Garden 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run! Or choose the virtual option and run/walk with them from your location! Run between the beautiful oak trees and scenery of Brookgreen Gardens during Memorial Day Weekend. Located south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, this run is one of the few evening races in the area. Register for the 5K and compete for prizes here.
