The Ripley’s Experience at Ocean Creek

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

Ocean Creek is offering up a ton of great activities for adults, teens, and kids to participate in over Summer 2011, but one particular activity stands out to most - The Ripley's Experience.

Vacation Myrtle Beach and Ocean Creek Resort have teamed up with Ripley's Aquarium to bring guests of the resort a special activity on Tuesday mornings at 10:00.

Because of Ocean Creek's unique landscaping and layout, they are the only resort around getting the priviledge of this fun, exciting, hands-on learning experience.

Two experienced marine biologists will demonstrate an act they call "seining." A seine is a large fishing net that hangs in the water due to weights along the bottom edge and floats along the top. The Ripley's scientists use this net in the creek under the resort's bridge to catch the different variety of creatures that live in the creek. They then use the net, and the help of those participating, to bring the creatures to the shore. From there, they teach families, couples, and children about each animal they have caught and let everyone actually touch the fish, crabs, and other creatures.

Since this activity has begun, the scientists have gained a huge following and it's really starting to get exciting on Tuesday mornings. They have caught everything from fish to crabs to shrimp. The best part about this is they don't just send the net out once! The scientists are at Ocean Creek for over an hour each week, and as long as people are around to listen, they'll stay to teach. The net could go out over five times and bring in new creatures each time around!

Who knew learing was possible at the beach or that it could be so much fun! Join Vacation Myrtle Beach, Ocean Creek and Ripley's Aquarium on Tuesday mornings during your stay at the Resort and find out more about the creatures you're swimming with!
