Veteran’s Day in Myrtle Beach

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

Veteran’s Day this year will be on a Monday, making it a long weekend, and many veterans from all over the southeast will be converging on Myrtle Beach Vacation resorts to make the best of it. The holiday was created in order to honor America’s veterans as well as those who are today carrying out active military service. There will be a number of ceremonies to participate in on November 11th, and many perks of one type or another for veterans and active service men and women to enjoy.

One of the more important ceremonies to take place on Veterans Day in Myrtle Beach will be held at the Special Events Plaza of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Starting at the traditional time of 11 a.m. (the armistice marking the end of hostilities after WWI was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) there will be a number of guest speakers. Organizations taking part will include the Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance and Rolling Thunder, as well as representatives from every branch of the armed forces.

Another important event will be the Surfside Veterans Day Service which will be held at the Surfside Beach Library at 2 p.m. on the same day. Daytime temperatures in Myrtle Beach for this time of the year are usually in the 70s, making for a beautiful day to show your gratitude to the armed forces.

There will be a number of other forms of recognition for our veterans on this day, and you can be sure that most of the Strand’s resorts and hotels will have something planned. In particular many of the area’s restaurants offer either discounted or even free meals to our service men and women and to veterans. The Golden Corral, for example, will be offering a free meal to veterans and service members from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. In previous years other eateries that have taken part nation-wide have included Texas Roadhouse, Chili's, Applebee's, Outback Steakhouse, Krispy Kreme and Hooters – check these out closer to the day to see what they might be offering.

So, you can expect to engage in lots of fun down at the Grand Strand this coming Veterans Day weekend. As well as the official ceremonies there will be plenty to enjoy, from shopping at one of the many shopping malls, visiting aquariums, the zoo, or even just walking the boardwalk and viewing the crowds.
