VMB Partner Spotlight: Calabash Fishing Fleet

By Megan Burke

Many visitors to Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts are keen on fishing, and this can be seen by the numbers of them lining the fishing piers along the Grand Strand. But what better way to celebrate the ocean and the sea life it contains than a spending a few hours at sea out in the Gulf Stream?

Calabash Fishing FleetJust a short drive to the north of Myrtle Beach, about a half mile over the state border in North Carolina, lies the small fishing village of Calabash. Calabash is home to a number of small fishing fleets, chief among them being the Calabash Fishing Fleet, a Vacation Myrtle Beach partner.

Flagship of the fleet is the 65’ Navigator, a new, all fiberglass party fishing boat, custom built in Maine. The Navigator was built specifically with passenger comfort and safety in mind, and is super fast, being equipped with twin 12 cylinder turbo-charged diesel engines. This boat is equipped with all the latest technology including quartz lighting for night fishing and an automatic hydraulic anchoring system to move the vessel around on the Gulf Stream trips and therefore give you even more fishing time.

The Calabash Fishing Fleet, under the command of Captain Robert, offers a variety of cruises including deep sea fishing cruises, dolphin adventure cruises, 12-hour Gulf Stream trips, ½ day fishing trips and summer night shark fishing trips. You’ll find a friendly family ambiance on board and there’s a full galley that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner where appropriate. The fleet caters for both the novice and the experienced fisher and keeps visitors coming back year after year.

If you’re staying at one of the VMB resorts and have a VMB Card (which is also your room key) you’ll get a 50% discount off of a second ticket on ½ day fishing trips or the Dolphin Cruise.

Consider making the Calabash Fishing Fleet part of your next Myrtle Beach vacation.
