Extreme Makeover build Tuesday January 12
Throughout the day today crews will continue setting up supplies and getting ready to build the new home.Overnight volunteers poured concrete for the foundation of the new house, which will be set behind the Suggs family's current cramped green farmhouse.
Harry Dill, a partner at Sterling Homes, the builder, said that they made the decision to put the house farther back in order to protect a beautiful tree that sits in front of the house.
Asbestos removal crews will come in today to properly remove the outer walls of the house, which have asbestos in them. Once that work is done, the house will be ready for demolition.
The public has been invited to watch the demolition of the old house, which is scheduled for about 5 p.m. About the first 1,000 people who arrive starting at 3:30 p.m. will be allowed to watch.
Event organizers said the public is rarely allowed to see the demolition and there are some additional surprises, including a large fireworks display that will go along with the demolition.
The builders reminded people who come to watch to bring cans to donate to the Extreme Canned food drive running in conjunction with the show. Sterling Homes partnered with the United Way of Horry County in an effort to fill Horry County food banks, which are low on food, with 100 tons of donated canned goods.
