August Events in Myrtle Beach

By Samantha Norton

August is the perfect time to visit, the weather is still a balmy average of 86 degrees and the water is a warm 85 degrees! Though summer is slowly winding down, you’d never be able to tell if you are visiting Myrtle Beach during the month of August. Whether you are squeezing in a late summer getaway or have been waiting all summer to kick back and relax, you definitely won’t experience a shortage of things to do during your stay. Check out some of the top events happening in August and pencil a few into your beach itinerary:

Myrtle Beach Speedway Races and Events – Ongoing

Myrtle Beach Speedway is about more than racing, although who doesn’t love a good car on car showdown? They are now throwing some of the best concerts and events around. Check out one of the five races in August for a great family outing! You can even get a discounted ticket August 1st, when you bring canned goods to donate on race day.

Movies Under the Stars – Ongoing

Gather your crew and head to Valor Park at Market Common to kick back and unwind after a bustling day at the beach. Each Friday, Market Common will host a free, family friendly flick on their large, outdoor screen. Guests are invited to come early to scope out their spot and can bring as many chairs and blankets as they like. The feature presentation begins at dusk, approximately at 9pm, though guests are encouraged to come early and enjoy play time at the park. There will also be food and vendors nearby in case you need a snack during the film. Be sure to take advantage of this free family event during your stay at the beach.

Hot Summer Nights – Ongoing

August is the final month for the Boardwalk’s popular Hot Summer Nights promotion and you won’t want to miss out on the chance to enjoy this fun, free event! There is truly something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age. Stop by on a Monday evening to take part in the weekly Kid’s Carnival which offers roaming street entertainment, games, contests, inflatables, face painting, and much more. Other nights offer live seaside entertainment, the area’s best Elvis impersonator, and even a spectacular fireworks show over the Atlantic. This, of course, is in addition to all of the shopping, entertainment, and dining already found downtown. Be sure to make it down to the Boardwalk at least once to experience this free family event during your stay in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Games – Ongoing

Stock up on your peanuts and Cracker Jacks and make sure to pencil in a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game during the month of August. This family friendly home team has at least one home game each week during the month. Most games start at 7:05pm and there are several generous promotions throughout the week to help you save: $2sDay Brewsdays offer $2 craft beer drafts from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Weiner Wednesdays offer $1 Hebrew National hotdogs all night long, and Thirsty Thursdays offer $1 domestic beer drafts from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Other ongoing promotions include pre-game autographs, post-game base runs, between-inning games and contests, and post-game fireworks shows on certain nights. Tickets can be purchased online or at the venue, just call (843) 918-6000 for more information. *TIPVMB Card Deal – Free meal voucher (hot dog, chips, soda) with purchase of regular priced ticket.
