By Julia Diem

Building sandcastles on the beach in Myrtle Beach, SCSaving money while on vacation is very important! While you know you want to have fun and not worry about money while on your vacation, it’s easy to get sidetracked with all of the fun and end up coming home to larger-than-planned credit card bill.

There are some easy ways in which you can avoid spending too much money while on vacation. Check out our tips below!

Save: By doing some saving ahead of time, you can really feel comfortable with what you spend while on vacation. Consider setting up a savings account just for vacation and have an automatic transfer each month during the year leading up to your vacation. That way you can set aside a little bit of money at a time and you will hardly even notice it! Or, you can set up a jar in a common room of your house where all family members can contribute change and small bills. This will really add up if you keep up with it!

Plan: Making a list of things to do in Myrtle Beach that are free will really help you to save money. After you make your list, be sure to try and do at least one or two free activity per day. Free activities in Myrtle Beach include: searching for seashells, building a sandcastle on the beach, taking a walk on Pier 14 or the pier at Garden City, look for sharks’ teeth, walking along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, going for a swim, participating in some of your resort’s free activities, watching the sun set from your balcony and so much more!

Food: Food can end up being a large chunk of your vacation budget. While cooking on vacation isn’t fun for most, planning ahead with quick and easy meals can make all the difference in your spending money. Be sure to book a unit that has a kitchen in it so you can easily make spaghetti, grilled cheese, scrambled eggs, sandwiches and other simple meals. Plus, you can buy snacks like chips and trail mix to take with you to the beach to satisfy your mid-day hunger.

VMB Card: By staying at a resort in the Vacation Myrtle Beach group, you will get a very valuable item at check-in: the VMB Card. This card is free and will get you access to all sorts of discounts that can be viewed here. If there are any shows you are interested in seeing, attractions you plan on checking out, or restaurants you want to eat at, be sure to see if they are on this list first! Many offer discounts while others offer free items, such as an appetizer with the purchase of entrees. By using this savings card your family can save big on vacation!

We hope that this list will help you get started on making the most out of your family vacation without breaking the bank!
