P. Reynolds Jazz By The Ocean

By Megan Burke

Though Myrtle Beach offers a vibrant live music scene, with hot spots including multiple venues at Broadway at the Beach, the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, the House of Blues, and the recently opened Tin Roof along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, there has always been a gap in the jazz arena. Well, this opportunity has finally been tapped! P. Reynolds Jazz By The Ocean is officially open for business.

The club is just one of several new additions to the revitalized downtown Myrtle Beach area, with other recent additions including Riptydz, Strong Waters, Tin Roof, and the return of Bandito’s.

P. Reynolds Jazz club found a home at the former Library Restaurant located in the downtown Myrtle Beach area. Owned and operated by Patrice Reynolds, a musician and playwright, the club will focus on showcasing local artists in an intimate environment. Open Mic at P. Reynolds Jazz Club

In addition to booking regional performers, the club will host one open jazz night per week where local talent can sign up to perform, offering local musicians priceless exposure within the community.

The cozy venue will only offer 60 seats, though the layout is flexible to accommodate larger crowds with less seated space. The venue also includes a live performance area in the back, which will be used for plays, poetry readings, open mic nights, and more.

Given the intimate nature of the space, the club offers memberships to keep raving jazz enthusiasts in the loop on performances and events. The membership is completely free and members will be given advance notice and priority access to events.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true night out on the town without amazing cuisine to top off the evening, and P. Reynolds does not disappoint. Staying true to their New Orleans jazz roots, the club features flavorful Cajun-inspired cuisine.

Visitors looking for a quick snack will enjoy the tapas menu, which offers an array of house-made wings, with flavors like ‘Saxy Honey Jalapeno’ and the signature ‘D.C Wings with Mumbo Sauce’, and several sassy sliders.

Don’t worry about going home hungry -- the menu features plenty of full-sized entrees with exciting flavors to accompany the exciting entertainment. Entree selections include Cajun seafood jambalaya, catfish or shrimp po’boy, crawfish boil, grilled prime rib, coq au vin, and several satisfying burgers.

End your jazz night on a sweet note with an order of beignets, traditional New Orleans fried donuts, for the full Cajun experience.

The new P. Reynolds Jazz club is already creating a buzz in the area and it’s not hard to figure out why! Pencil in a trip to this snazzy new spot for a night of good food, great fun, and the best live jazz in town.
