Samantha’s Guide to the Boardwalk-Hot Summer Nights

By Samantha Norton

The summer is a great time in Myrtle Beach to come for a visit. There are so many fun and free things to do during the peak season, it’s hard to choose where to spend your time, and that is a problem I can embrace! One of my favorite places no matter the season is the Boardwalk and Historic Downtown. In the summer, they amp up their offerings and draw me in with nightly activities. This year it is called Hot Summer Nights and the name is right on the money!

Monday nights kicks the week off with Boardwalk Kid’s Carnival. The event will feature kid friendly bands, bouncy house type inflatables, face painting, games and much more!

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are perfect for music lovers. Head to the “I Love Sugar” oceanfront stage at Plyler Park for local bands from every genre! This event is completely free each night! You can’t beat free live music, oh wait yes you can! Oceanfront and free live music takes the cake!

Wednesdays are probably my favorite night! I love fireworks, and you can be dazzled by bright lights and awe inspiring fiery formations every Wednesday night on 9th Avenue Oceanfront. Come early and sway your hips to live music from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. before the show!

I love the scents and scenery of the Boardwalk and all of the other great things you can do there. You can take a spin on the famous SkyWheel. I recommend waiting until sunset, trust me; you have never been more awestruck than feeling like you are part of the sunset. While you are enjoying free live music or taking in the fireworks spectacular, make sure to stop over to a little piece of Myrtle Beach history, the Bowery! Well known country band Alabama got its’ humble start as the Bowery’s house band for six years. You will love their fried pickles, I did!

Whether you are a first time visitor or Myrtle Beach is your second home, you will enjoy all the boardwalk has to offer!
