The Caravelle Welcomes Students from Clemson University Research Group

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

The Caravelle management team was visited recently by a student research group from Clemson University and the Martin Inn at Clemson led by Dr. Brett Wright and Dr. Jeff Martin in order to learn about the daily resort operations and guest interaction at our resort.  During this trip, the students focused on how their hospitality research applies to a real world situation, in particular at a Myrtle Beach oceanfront resort.

The students presented their study concepts and how they attempt to apply each facet of the resort operation to measurable figures called SERVQUAL in order to be able to arrive at a final score to measure the service levels and what areas are sufficient and what areas need improvement.

During the visit each member of the Caravelle management team was assigned one student so that the students were able to observe the interaction between the managers and the employees, as well as the interaction between the employees and the guests.

We were all very impressed with the students and their desire to create a systematic approach to measuring service quality.  It could be said that not only did they learn to apply their system to a real world operation in Myrtle Beach, but we were able to take some valuable insight from this great experience.  We are also excited that after this visit, one of the Clemson students has decided to work with us during this year's summer break.  All in all it was a fantastic meeting....even for the Gamecock fans in our group!
