Top Things to Do/See at The Market Common

By Samantha Norton

The Market Common is a newer district of shopping, dining and entertainment on the south end of Myrtle Beach. Built to have the feel of a New York block, with living above the restaurants and boutiques, it has a very hip urban feel.

Dining

If you are looking for a variety of eats that will appeal to the whole family, you need to visit The Market Common. Some highlights are:

Tupelo Honey: This southern comfort food establishment with a twist is great for brunch, lunch and dinner. The décor has a chic warmth and plenty of seating so you can dine casually bar side or more formally in the dining room. At Tupelo Honey, you can get whiskey gingers and gin and tonics on DRAFT. How cool is that? Not to mention the food is amazing. We recommend definitely trying the Appalachian Egg Rolls with pulled pork, smoked jalapeno BBQ sauce, greens and pickled onions.

Crepe Creation Café: Crepes aren’t just for breakfast anymore! Crepe Creation Café offers breakfast crepes, lunch and dinner crepes and dessert crepes. Whatever you want, they are serving it up with flair! If you don’t love crepes, they also serve soups, salads and any crepe can be turned into a panini, YUM! We recommend the Asparagus Crepe with fresh steamed asparagus, Swiss cheese, ham slices, onions and hollandaise sauce.

Shopping

You can find national retailers as well as unique boutique shops ready to satiate your shopping needs.

Coastal Urge: This store is for the Carolinian in all of us. Here you will find all of the most popular coastal and outdoorsy brands like Southern Tide, Patagonia and Vineyard Vines and many, many more.

Handpicked: Previously inspired by Mexican culture; Handpicked now works with artisans to design and carry one-of-a-kind accessories.  If you are looking for the perfect birthday, Christmas or just-because gift, you will be sure to find a standout statement piece here.

Entertainment

The amount of entertainment can vary depending on the time of year, but there is always something going on. You can enjoy the newest movie at Grand Cinema 14. Many of the restaurants have live music and/or trivia nights. All throughout the year you can also head to their Valor Park area located across from Tupelo Honey for festivals. Upcoming events are:

Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot – Nov. 26:  This race features an 8K, 5K, 1 mile and a FREE Kid’s Tot Trot. The races start at 8:00 a.m. Over 1,200 runners participate and the organizers also work with the Myrtle Beach Humane Society as the official charity. The fee to enter varies depending on the race and when you sign up.

Carriage Rides – Nov. 29-Dec. 23 (Sundays): Get your Christmas shopping started (or finished) or just come out for a day of fun and cap it off with a complimentary carriage ride around The Market Common from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pick up and drop off is in front of Dolce Lusso Salon.

Breakfast with Santa – Dec. 5, 12 & 19: Head to Tupelo Honey Café for a delightful breakfast with Santa from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at $10 per person, while ages 3 and under are free. The cost includes breakfast with coffee, soft drinks, juice or milk and tax and gratuity are not included. To make reservations call 843-315-3780.
