What’s New This Year in Myrtle Beach: 2014 Edition

2014 has been an exciting year thus-far in Myrtle Beach.

There have been many changes and additions to our wonderful town making it even better for locals and visitors alike!

Below are some highlights of what’s new to Myrtle Beach this season:

Attractions

Hollywood Wax MuseumThe Hollywood Wax Museum, complete with a giant King Kong scaling the exterior of the building, just opened its doors this month. Located at Highway 17 Bypass and 21st Avenue North, this new attraction features a wide array of celebrities from Jennifer Aniston to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Also in 2014, Family Kingdom added Dune Buggies and Magic Bikes, NASCAR SpeedPark changed names and ownership and is now Broadway Grand Prix, and Freak-Out, Rocket Flyer, 65-foot tall Giant Slide and Speed were rides added at Broadway at the Beach.

Dining

A second location of the popular Loco Gecko Beach Shak opened at Crown Reef Resort this spring, serving up burgers, pizzas and wraps in an oceanfront setting. Other new Myrtle Beach restaurants include Crepe Creation Café and Co Sushi at Market Common, Which Wich off of Highway 544 near Surfside Beach and Johnny D’ Waffles and Bakery on Highway 17 Business opened their doors recently. Additionally, a unique donut shop is opening up on Ocean Boulevard called Lulu’s Donuts where you can get a large variety of donuts like you would at a specialty cupcake shop.

Travel

Earlier this spring, Allegiant Airlines added new routes to its summer lineup. Direct flights from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, Lexington, Kentucky and Syracuse, New York were all added.

Hotels

Crown Reef Resort is nearly finished building their brand new Waterpark which will feature two slides that are four stories tall, a kiddie slide and a water fun play area. Additionally, hotel BLUE Resort opened up their new 8 South Deck and Proximity Lobby Bar earlier this year. For a full list of Vacation Myrtle Beach resort updates, click here.

Shopping

Some new shops opened up in Myrtle Beach this year including Vividelle, So Unique!, Krypotnite Character Store and Coastal Carolina Winery, all at Broadway at the Beach. Charming Charlie opened its doors at Market Common and shops also opened up at Barefoot Landing including, IT’S SUGAR, Hat Fanatic and Yours and Mayan.
