FAQ: Are Dogs Allowed on the Beach?

dog on the beach in Myrtle BeachYes. Dogs are allowed on the beach but there are some restrictions, especially during the summer months.

In Myrtle Beach between May 1 and Labor Day you can only take your dog to the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is only open to dogs between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.  In both cases dogs must be leashed at all times.

In North Myrtle Beach dogs are allowed on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. from May 15 through September 15.

Generally in Horry County, which includes any areas not specifically within a city limits, animals can only go on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. from June 1 through September 1.

If you journey a bit further south to Surfside Beach, dogs are not allowed on the beaches at all from May 15 through September 15. But if you go beyond that to Georgetown County beaches then dogs are allowed on public beaches so long as they are controlled or on a leash.
