Grand Strand Freedom Fest Planned

Grand Strand Freedom Fest will honor the anniversary of the the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and will feature several performers including country superstar LeAnn Rimes, said officials from Freestyle Music Park and Business Owners Organized to Support Tourism (BOOST).

Freedom Fest which will happen over three days starting on Friday, September 11th with a free "Concert for America" by the Long Bay Symphony at La Belle Amie Vineyard, just off S.C. 90, at 1120 St. Joseph Road, in Little River.

On Sept. 12, Freestyle Music Park will be the site of a daylong festival, including a 1 p.m. parade of military veterans, local high school marching bands and the members of the veterans' motorcycle group Rolling Thunder, joined by other veteran, police and fire-and-rescue-oriented motor-cycles.

The Pearl Harbor Foundation, the Sept. 11th Memorial Foundation and other groups will have exhibits throughout the park that day, as well.

The festival will be capped off by a concert by Rimes on the first stop of her new North American tour.

Additional entertainment includes afternoon concerts by Charlie Floyd and Southern Express, Jeffrey Allen Edwards and Southern Blues, and performer Billy Joe Royal.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Operation First Response, an organization that has been supporting wounded soldiers and their families since 2001.

Operation First Response founder Peggy Baker said Silver Star recipient Sean Bennett will be among the soldiers here for the weekend, along with Military American Idol winner Vicki Golding. Bennett is a singer who has toured with Billy Ray Cyrus. Golding will perform the National Anthem on the first night of the festival.
