Linda Fuller Wins 2009 PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

September 4, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. ? Linda Fuller of Richmond, Texas, a 16.8-handicap golfer, shot a net 66 Friday to win the 2009 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Fuller is the third consecutive female to win the championship and the wife of 26 year tournament participant Roger Fuller.

"I played really well this week and recorded a few rounds in the 70's, of which I've never done before," said Fuller. "Last year I finished third in my flight and went home with the intent of working on my game for this year's tournament. I attend the Dave Pelz short-game school, took numerous lessons with my club pro and practiced, resulting in this great win. I'd like to extend a big thank you to the World Am staff and The Dunes Club for running such a wonderful golf tournament again this year."

Wayne Hudson of Bremen, Ga. and Phillip Sanders, of Bartlett, Tenn., captured the 2009 International Pairs Championship by shooting a 135 net in Friday's championship round, which included a one hole, sudden death playoff. Hudson and Sanders, who are cousins and three year tournament participants, won an all-expenses paid trip to St. Andrews to represent the United States in the 2010 International Pairs World Finals.

"We're elated about the way today's round turned out," said Hudson. "We didn't think we'd played well enough to win, but we're proud to going to Scotland to represent the United States in the 2010 International Pairs event."

"We congratulate Linda for capturing the 2009 World Am Championship and the team of Wayne and Phillip for winning the International Pairs Championship," said Dave Macpherson, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday tournament director. "After 72 holes of stroke play competition and the World Championship Playoff, our champions certainly earned the titles they won today."

Hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship is considered to be the most comparable experience to the U.S. Open for the amateur golfer. Held the week before Labor Day, the event is open to all amateur golfers with a

USGA handicap, or the foreign equivalent. Flighted according to their handicaps, golfers competed in four rounds with all 64 flight winners and 12 ties then advancing to today's 18-hole world championship playoff at the renowned Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Fifty-one Myrtle Beach area golf courses, including six of "America's 100 Greatest Public Courses," hosted rounds this year. Among the Top 100 layouts are the Dunes Club, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation, The Resort Club at Grande Dunes, The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf and The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf.

The on-course competition is only half the fun. Each evening after tournament play, participants and their guests enjoyed hospitality at the "World's Largest 19th Hole," also known as the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The 19th Hole featured an extensive golf expo with equipment demos, entertainment, free food and drinks and jumbotron video boards to peruse scores. The 19th Hole was also the site of the "TOUR Van Experience" presented by the PGA TOUR Superstore. The "TOUR Van Experience" featured a 30,000 square foot demo and club fitting area, fashion makeovers, game improvement areas, skill contests and seminars by Dave Pelz, Jesse Ortiz and Kevin Bullard. In addition to playing for the championship, golfers also had the opportunity to win a share of the $250,000 in prizes given away at the tournament.

World Am officials implemented new features in 2009 to help improve the pace of play and enhance the tournament experience for each participant. This year, players were grouped in threesomes, instead of foursomes, to shorten the length of the rounds and each flight was reduced from an average of 112 players to approximately 48. By reducing the number of golfers in each flight, participants now have a greater chance of winning their flight and advancing to the championship round.

The World Am also introduced Twitter, the popular social media application, to the 26th annual event. Participants are encouraged to Tweet from the course and from the 19th Hole to let friends, family and followers know of their experiences and thoughts during the week.

Always scheduled the week before Labor Day, the 27th annual PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship will be held August 30 ? September 3, 2010.
