Things to Do in Myrtle Beach in May

Hello May! We are welcoming May 2024  with some marvelous things to do in Myrtle Beach. Some 2023 big events this month include Cinco de Mayo celebrations, 5K runs, live music events, Pelicans baseball, and a world-famous seafood festival! As summer weather continues to approach, these festivals and events are a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the warm Myrtle Beach weather.

 

Ballroom Dance 

  • When: Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m
  • Where: St. John’s Hall

The Ballroom Dance Preservation Society hosts several events every year. Come dance or just watch in casual wear and a comfortable pair of shoes (leather or suede bottoms are best). A Fancy gown or tuxedo is not required. You may bring snacks to share at your table. Water is provided. Tickets are $10 each for members and $14 for Non members

 

Yoga In The Yard

  • When: Sundays in May, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
  • Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery, 4924 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Join Yoga in the Yard at Crooked Hammock Brewery on Sundays. At the end of the week, everyone needs some time to re-center themselves and cleanse the spirit with a cold beer if needed  (the first one is free). Their Yoga in the Yard series with Sea Yoga will guide you through a relaxing physical & mental workout.  All levels are welcome, and remember your yoga mat! Spots can be reserved HERE for $15.

 

Groovin' On The Green Concert 

  • When: Fridays, May 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31  from 7:30 p.m.  - 9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Conway, Town Green at 200 Laurel Street 

Conway Downtown Alive will host Groovin’ on the Green, an outdoor Friday night concert series, on May 3 - City Lights Band, May 10 - Special Blend Experience, May 17- Chocolate Chip & Company Band, May 24 - Band on Fire,  and May 31 - Bailey Road Band. Bring your own lawn chair and dance away. In addition to a variety of music, Chicora Car Club will host a classic car cruise-in each night. Limited space is available. Live Music At The Brewery

  • When: Thursdays in May, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery, 4924 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Every Thursday in May from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., guests are invited to grab a beer, chill in the backyard and enjoy live music at the brewery. The lineup features local bands, including The Zilches Band. For a full look at the musicians, please see HERE.

 

Cinco De Mayo Events

4th Annual Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

  • When: Sunday, May 5 at 11:30 am
  • Where: Sol y Luna Latin Cantina, 4270 River Oaks Dr, Myrtle Beach

Come to the 4th Annual Cinco de Mayo at Sol y Luna Latin Cantina, all-day, indoor & outdoor. The Fiesta will include Carolina Social Bar, live music featuring Coastal Blues Band and Ariel S. Marini, food & drink specials, and giveaways!  It’s quite a fiesta!

 

Taco Mundo 5 Days Of Fiesta Party

  • When: Wednesday, May 1st - Sunday, May 5th
  • Where: Barefoot Landing, 4732 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Hola Amigos! May 1st - May 5th is the Cinco De Mayo 5 days of Fiesta Celebration this year. Come watch the Señoritas make Homemade Corn Tortillas from Wednesday to Friday 5 pm to 8 pm!

  • Day 1: Wednesday, May 1st - Latin Inspired Music from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Day 2: Thursday, May 2nd - Samba Show from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Day 3: Friday, May 3rd - live music with Super Reggae Man from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tequila tasting
  • Day 4:  Saturday, May 4th - Kids Day with Stilt Walkers 1 pm - 3 pm, Piñata Smash at 3 p.m., and Latin Inspired Music from 6 pm to 9 pm. 
  • Day 5: Sunday, May 5th, Cinco De Mayo - Live Music with Julio and the Saltines from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. along with a Grito Ranchero-Americano Contest at 3 p.m with prizes. Street Tacos will also be available out of a Taco Truck at 12 p.m.

 

Cinco De Mayo Party Excursion

  • When: Sunday, May 5th at 5:45 p.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Where: Pie-Eyed Parrot Happy Hour Cruise, 4097 Hwy 17 Business, Murrells Inlet

Join the annual Cinco De Mayo Party Excursion aboard the Pie Eyed Parrot “Happy Hour” Cruise. It’s a 90-minute party! Enjoy drinks, music, and spectacular views. Check-in and boarding starts at 5:45 p.m., Dockside Party will run 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. with the cruise taking place from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Book your tickets now on the Original Happy Hour Sunset Cruise here.

Myrtle Beach Cinco De Mayo Bar Crawl 

  • When: Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th
  • Where: Various Bars in Myrtle Beach

Join the bar-hopping ritual for a parade of tacos and tequila you won’t forget. Round up friends and get tickets for admission to some of the area’s finest beach bars. At some venues, you’ll get a custom digital map, exclusive drink specials, and live music. You could win prizes in a photo contest, too. World's Strongest Man Competition 

  • When: Wednesday, May 1st - Sunday, May 5th gates open at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place, 812 North Ocean Boulevard

Make plans to attend the Annual “World’s Strongest Man Competition.” Since 1977, they have invited competitors from around the world to compete for the title. The competition is about stamina, skill, tactics, training and strategy.

 

Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 4th, gates open at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Lot next to 1st Ave. S Main Street and 1st Avenue S., in North Myrtle Beach

Make plans to attend the 7th Annual “Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival.” The stage will be outside in the parking lot between Main Street and First Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach. Scheduled to perform are Pink Slips Band, Band of Oz, Jim Quick & Coastline, and The Spinners. The emcee will be CBMA Hall of Fame DJ, Chad Sain along with the Surf DJs/Show hosts. Chairs and coolers are permitted. This event is rain or shine.

 

69th Annual Sun Fun Festival

  • When: Friday, May 10th to Sunday, May 12th
  • Where: Plyler Park, 1100 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Come watch the Sun Fun Parade as it travels from 8th Avenue North to 16th Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach! Entertainment includes at various times: Free games in Plyler Park, photo booth, face painting, glitter tattoos,  photo ops, free kids crafts, and more.

 

Spring Live Music Series Prom

  • When: Every Friday 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. throughout the month of May
  • Where: Barefoot Landing, 4898 Hwy. 17 S. North Myrtle Beach 

The Spring Live Music Series continues through May. Various local groups of all genres will perform on the Pepsi Stage in Dockside Village at Barefoot Landing. Grab a complimentary chair (while supplies last) or bring your own and settle in for free entertainment before or after enjoying dinner at one of Barefoot Landing’s many restaurants.

 

Motown Tribute Show-Motor City Musical 

  • When: Throughout the month of May at 7 p.m.
  • Where: GTS Theatre, 1220 Port Drive, Myrtle Beach

Come celebrate 60+ years of Motown Music with an evening of soulful entertainment, as you go on a musical journey through the history of Motown. Motown is a genre that broke down social barriers and infused music of the 60's and 70's with life and rhythm. 

 

Brookgreen Gardens Spring Wine Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. 
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens, 1931 Brookgreen Dr, Murrells Inlet

Come attend the 4th Annual food and wine event at Brookgreen Gardens!  Enjoy wine tastings and live music in the Oak Grove near Pegasus. An event wristband includes admission to the Spring Wine Festival event and 10 tasting tickets. Additional tickets are available for purchase for wine tastings, games, and other activities.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball 

  • When: Ongoing through September
  • Where: TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark

May will be packed with Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball. Join the fans at TicketReturn.com Field to cheer on the Pelicans and enjoy a family night out.

World Famous Blue Crab Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 18 and Sunday May 19,  9 a.m. - 5 p.m. 
  • Where: Historic Little River Waterfront

Join the 42nd Annual World Famous Blue Crab Festival, one of the largest festivals in the Southeast. It's consistently been awarded the Best Annual Event/Festival on the Grand Strand for 8 years. Bring your family & friends to enjoy fresh, local seafood from a waterfront restaurant or get your favorite festival food fix. Enjoy scenic views, live beach music, arts and craft vendors, and other activities. Satellite parking and a shuttle are available. Come be a part of the festivities and enjoy a day out along the coast. $10 per person, per day, with children 12 and under free!

Spring Myrtle Beach Bike Week

  • When: Friday, May 10 - Sunday, May 19, 2024
  • Where: Various locations throughout Myrtle Beach 

For the 85th Annual Bike Week, the Grand Strand becomes a hotspot for motorcycle enthusiasts and cruisers. Each rally includes tons of bike shows, area tours, vendors, and much more.

 

Brookgreen Gardens Memorial Day Weekend Run

  • When: Sunday, May 26 at 5 p.m. - 8 p. m.
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens

Join the 11th Annual Brookgreen Garden 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run! Or choose the virtual option and run/walk with them from your location! Run between the beautiful oak trees and scenery of Brookgreen Gardens during Memorial Day Weekend. Located south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, this run is one of the few evening races in the area. Register for the 5K and compete for prizes here.
