The mild temperatures and affordable prices make Myrtle Beach an appealing winter destination, particularly for our friends from the north. “Snowbirds”, or winter travelers, flock to Myrtle Beach during our off-season to take advantage of the crowd-free beaches, which are still pleasant to walk during the day and our rock bottom hotel prices.

The Weather

Balmy temperatures makeup Myrtle Beach’s weather during the winter (and fall) months. Normally, the temperatures stay on the mild side with average monthly temperatures of October, November, and December between 70 and 50 degrees. These temperate conditions make for perfect weather to stroll the boardwalk and enjoy outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment at The Market Common, Broadway at the Beach, and Barefoot Landing. Consistently colder days don’t usually arrive until January, and last through March.

Things To Do

Myrtle Beach Indoor Attractions

Touch a jellyfish at Ripley’s Aquarium, let your mind run wild at WonderWorks, strike a pose next to your favorite celebrity at the Hollywood Wax Museum, or visit Alligator Adventure in North Myrtle Beach to meet some of the world’s most exotic creatures. If you’re looking for a show, Alabama Theatre, The Carolina Opry and Legends In Concert are great choices for high spectacle performances throughout the year, as well as holiday-themed extravaganzas throughout November and December. Or catch a show at the House of Blues featuring recognized touring artists.

Myrtle Beach Winter Events

From tree lightings to New Year’s parties, there’s plenty of great festivals and events going on throughout Myrtle Beach during the winter. For a peaceful, breathtaking spectacle, head to Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet for A Night of A Thousand Candles, which, as the name suggests, features thousands of lighted candles throughout the beautiful gardens and surrounding the sculptures. If you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve party, visit the Market Common for Southern Times Square at The Market Common, or head to the House of Blues for New Year’s Eve with Corey Smith. And visit the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk for Marshi Gras, the Grand Strand’s own Mardi Gras celebration. Valentine’s Day offers plenty of fabulous dining opportunities at local restaurants and attractions including Ripley’s Aquarium, La Belle Amie Vineyard, and New York Prime, just to name a few. Be sure to stay up-to-date with our Calendar of Events for everything happening during the winter and throughout the year.
