Toy Story 3 is sure to bring out your inner child!

I am not easily impressed. For some reason, when I go to be entertained, the critic in me immediately comes out. But Friday night, my inner critic was quickly silenced, and thanks to Mr. & Mrs. PotatoHead, Ken & Barbie, Woody & Buzz Lightyear, the child in me came back out.

This weekend, my wife and I decided it was time to stop being grown-ups for a couple hours so we headed down to the Imax 3D Theatre in Myrtle Beach. We grabbed a 2 gallon bucket of popcorn, boxes of gummy bears, and a couple of cokes. We strapped on our goofy, oversized, 3d glasses and settled into overstuffed theater chairs and were immediately mesmerized by a 6 story movie screen that seemed to wrap around, behind, and above us.

As a first-time Imax goer I was actually quite content after the opening mini-film. Rather than 25 minutes of previews, the folks over at IMAX show off their stunning setup by delivering what must be the latest in eye-popping 3d cinema technology. I sat captivated with the details of blades of grass and the crisp clarity of flowing water not to mention the expressions of the characters as they bounced all around us.

As for the feature film, we were blown away. I'm constantly amazed how the folks at Pixar can create characters that capture the hearts of children and create drama that resonates with adults, while delivering stunning graphics that make the Sr. Artists over at Warner Bros. drool.

We were huge fans of Toy Story 1 but ended up being a little underwhelmed by Toy Story 2. Though full of cute moments it seemed to just be a continuation of Toy Story 1. Could Toy Story 3 pull off what so few movies can do by making a successful second sequel?

Yet, Toy Story 3 delivers. The third installment brings a fresh plot, better developed characters, and a feel-good humor that makes your cheeks hurt. Packed with exciting adventure and an honest emotion that leaves even adults identifying with animated toys, Toy Story 3 delivers the best film of the series.

So whether you have kids to entertain or are grown-up who needs to escape, Toy Story 3 in Imax 3d stands ready to deliver. And as for this critic, from now on if its not showing at Imax 3D Theatre... I just wait until it is!
