There are always plenty of things to keep you occupied during your stay at Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts during the summer months and August is no exception. August ushers in the beginning of the end for the busy season, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t tons of events and fun to keep your family excited!

Free Activities

You definitely want to add the Hot Summer Nights fireworks display to your itinerary every Wednesday at 10 p.m.

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through August 20th, you can take part in pier fishing at the Myrtle Beach State Park. It’s the perfect activity to showcase nature to your family. The program is catch and release and is only open to six people at a time so make sure to pre-register your spot. The cost is $5 per person and anyone 5 years and older can participate. You can pre-register by calling the nature center at 843-238-0874 the Monday of the week you want to fish.

Take your family out to Chapin Park every Saturday night through August 13th from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for movies on the big screen. You can bring your own snacks, or you can purchase popcorn and snacks right at the park.

If you happen to be closer to the south end, take advantage of Free Movies Under The Stars, offered Fridays in Valor Park at The Market Common. August’s movie lineup includes Moana, Back to the Future, Monsters University, and The Addams Family. Bring a few chairs or blankets and cozy up for a great night at the beach!

August means it is almost time for the kids to go back to school, so why not celebrate at the Grand Strand Back to School Bash 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 6th and 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 7th. This event takes place at the Myrtle Beach Mall and there will be exhibits, educational displays, and interactive activity zones. Your kids can also get their face painted and free school supplies while supplies last.

Tax-Free Weekend

This year’s tax-free weekend takes place August 4 - 6. Starting Friday, you can enjoy tax-free savings on a number of items before the school year starts. This saving applies to such items as clothing, accessories, footwear, school supplies, computers and computer equipment.
