2011 Attractions Update!

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach has long been a favorite for vacationers from all over the United States, Canada and beyond and over that time Myrtle Beach has grown every year to become the most popular vacation destination on the east coast. 2010 introduced the heralded Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and 2011 appears to be a banner year in bringing a wide variety of new attractions, shows and more to Myrtle Beach, creating even more excitement for the coming year.

We went today to check out the progress for all of the exciting new things coming to the beach this year! Here's what we found:

Pirate's Voyage - A ton of work has been done to flip Dolly Parton's long running Dixie Stampede into the land of the Pirates! The building looks completely different from the outside, and we just can't wait to see what the inside has in store for us! Pirate's Voyage is set to open in June of 2011 and will also be a dinner show just like the Dixie Stampede was. Guests will experience the spirit and swashbuckling excitement of the pirates who called the Carolina coast home. The Crimson and Sapphire pirates battle each other on deck, in the water and in the sky above their full sized pirate ships in a 15-foot-deep indoor lagoon to the cheers and delight of their fans in the arena.

Myrtle Beach SkyWheel - The Skywheel is now open! The wheel contains 42 glass-enclosed, temperature controlled gondolas that can hold six to eight people and a state-of-the-art computer-generated lighting system with over one million LED lights, which creates an amazing light show each evening after sunset. The 200 foot tall oceanfront SkyWheel is located adjacent to the beautiful Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The SkyWheel resembles a traditional ferris wheel, though its size dwarfs virtually all other rides of its kind in the United States.

Jimmy Buffett's Land Shark Bar & Grille - Following the overwhelming success of his popular Margaritaville Restaurant at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, music legend Jimmy Buffett has brought the Land Shark Bar & Grille to Myrtle Beach just off of the Boardwalk area near the aforementioned Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, and it's now open! What's even better is that now you can kill two birds with one stone and enjoy a great meal or a few cocktails before or after your ride on the Skywheel!

Wonderworks - After opening a Zipline and Ropes course in 2010, Wonderworks is now open, completing the attraction, and a TON of people are waiting in line to see the self-proclaimed "amusement park for the mind." Visitors to the attraction will enjoy a variety of experiences including being blown away by 74 mile per hour hurricane-force winds, maneuvering the controls of a NASA spacecraft to land the shuttle, lying on a bed of 3,500 nails, piloting a fighter jet, designing and riding a 360 degree virtual roller coaster, playing virtual sports and competing in a game of lazer-tag. The Works Restaurant is now open too, so you can enjoy a great meal after all those exciting activities get your tummy rumblin'!

Legends In Concert - The same great show in an amazing new place is now open at Broadway at the Beach with shows every night! The Legends In Concert tribute show has been a Myrtle Beach area favorite for a number of years and the hit show is continuing its current format where five celebrity tribute acts ranging from Madonna to the Blues Brothers to Elvis to Cher and many other will rotate performances. Be sure to catch a show while you're in town! You won't be disappointed!
