Best Southern Restaurants in Myrtle Beach

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

With more than 1,000 restaurants scattered along the Grand Strand, it is not surprising that almost every different type of cuisine is catered for. You will find just about every form of eatery from elegant fine dining establishments to fast food burger takeaways. It goes without saying that there is a good selection of restaurants that serve dishes of the Southern and Soul cuisines, and we have picked out a few of the better ones for you to try out when staying at Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts.

Big Mike’s Soul Food is a family restaurant located in central Myrtle Beach near the junction of 16th Avenue North and North Kings Highway. The restaurant’s owner, Mike Chestnut, has been in the catering business for more than 30 years, and his menu is basic but delicious and includes the usual salads, soups and sandwiches, the latter being served with fries or chips.

Carolina Roadhouse is known for their ribs, country fried pork chops and other country cooking classics. This local restaurant with two locations, one in North Myrtle Beach and one in Surfside Beach, also has a great atmosphere with an open dining room and friendly servers. With your Myrtle Beach discounts card you also get a free appetizer for your party with the purchase of your entrees.

Sticky Fingers is a smoke house restaurant located at the Coastal Grand Mall, with a second branch in North Myrtle Beach. The two restaurants are VMB partners, and production of your VMB Card will reward you with a 15% reduction of your bill. There’s a very wide ranging menu that understandably contains plenty of smoked meat dishes, including wings, ribs, turkey, pulled pork and sausages. Their Brunswick Stew is loaded with pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket.

Little Pigs BBQ has been described as being one of the best barbecue spots in the region, especially if you try their pulled pork, which doesn’t even need sauce according to some. The décor of the eatery is nothing to write home about, but who cares when the food is clearly as tasty as claimed.

Just the other side of Murrells Inlet on Pawley Island is the Hog Heaven Restaurant, which, needless to say, specializes in barbecued pork dishes. That is not all that is on the menu though; they also serve a wide variety of seafood and country dishes. Their menu also offers a number of ‘all you can eat’ choices on certain nights of the week.

There are two branches of Bar-b-Que House along the Strand, one in North Myrtle Beach and the other in Surfside Beach. This restaurant offers slightly smaller sized and priced portions to seniors aged 62 and over, and there is also a kiddies’ menu.  The eating house specializes in hickory smoked pork and chicken, and serves extremely generous portions in their BBQ House Plates.

The Simply Southern Smokehouse is a restaurant with a difference. For a fixed price you get to serve yourself from the very extensive buffet. The selection of entrees is quite small and is comprised of a handful of chicken dishes, but with plenty of sides. The very reasonable fixed price includes desserts, and you are guaranteed not to leave the restaurant still hungry. This eatery is located at 1913 Mr. Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach.
