‘Bodies Revealed’ Exhibit is Finally Here!

Premier Exhibitions, Inc. announced today that Bodies Revealed is now open at Broadway at the Beach and will be through September 5, 2011. Seen by millions worldwide, the Exhibition features real, whole and partial body specimens that have been meticulously dissected and preserved, giving visitors the opportunity to view the complexity of their own organs and systems like never before. This is the first time Bodies Revealed has come to South Carolina.

"For centuries, the medical community has learned about the inner workings of anatomy through the study of real human bodies, and now it's possible for the public to gain an intimate knowledge as well," said Dr. Roy Glover, chief medical director for Bodies Revealed. "The exhibition will change the way people of South Carolina see themselves. It will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire."

Bodies Revealed -which is located on the northeastern side of Broadway at the Beach- shares the body in unprecedented detail that is normally reserved for medical professionals. Visitors of all ages can look deep inside the carefully-preserved specimens, learn about human anatomy and see the effects that disease and unhealthy lifestyles have on the body. The Exhibition will cost $14 for adults and $10 for children. Children under the age of three are free. It will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In the month of May, Bodies Revealed will have a limited weekend schedule. It will be available for viewing May 14 and 15; May 20 through May 22; and beginning May 27, it will be open every day until Sept. 5.

The Exhibition takes visitors through a series of galleries providing an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. Many of the full-body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing visitors to relate to everyday activities. In addition, a multitude of organs are displayed to illustrate the damage that can result from over-eating, lack of exercise and smoking, and provide comparisons more powerful than those illustrated in any textbook.

"The Bodies Revealed exhibit is one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to provide everyone with an insightful and new perspective into the human body," said Patrick Walsh, senior vice president of asset management with the Burroughs & Chapin Company. "This exhibit will give the more than 13 million people who visit Broadway at the Beach annually an unprecedented opportunity to see inside the human body in a way that most people outside the medical profession never have a chance to do. It is a great educational exhibit for people of all ages to learn and understand more about themselves and we're extremely excited to be able to offer it at Broadway at the Beach."

Bodies Revealed has been organized and created by a team of medical professionals who can take up to a year to prepare each exhibit. The bodies in the Exhibition have been donated for scientific purposes and have been preserved through a revolutionary process called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs.
