House of Blues Feed the Souls Food Drive

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

As part of the 20th Anniversary celebration, House of Blues venues across the nation will work together to feed 20,000 Thanksgiving meals this year as its annual Feed the Souls campaign. House of Blues Myrtle Beach will help feed 1,700 locals as part of the company's national outreach.

Since early September, the venue has been collecting non-perishable canned goods to benefit local charities including Lowcountry Food Bank, the Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach, Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach and the North Strand Helping Hand. Guests are able to receive 10% off any food or retail purchase with the donation of three non-perishable food items until November 21st, 2012.

On September 22nd House of Blues had a charity Myrtle Beach Rocks True Blues concert that benefitted the The Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach, partnering with Scott Mann of local radio station Wave 104.1.

“We had a great time, and a really good turnout!  Best of all we raised over $500 in cash and collected a LOT of food for the 10th Annual WAVE 104.1 Marathon for Meals!  Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach and The Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach will be able to feed many more people thanks to the House Of Blues!” according to Mann.

Additionally, House of Blues is working with several area shelter groups including Sea Haven and Seacoast Youth Academy. Food will be delivered in the days leading up to Thanksgiving to area locations and some of the shelter residents will be brought to House of Blues for a complimentary Thanksgiving buffet dinner.  Transportation for the House of Blues Thanksgiving Feed the Souls food drive is being provided by Hertz as part of its sponsorship of the House of Blues' 20th Anniversary.

“We are so excited about working with House of Blues to ensure our youth have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.” Wendy Gore of Sea Haven says.

This year's Thanksgiving Feed the Souls campaign kicks off the House of Blues 20th Anniversary. The first House of Blues was established in Harvard Square and before it served concert-going guests, the venue opened its doors on Thanksgiving Day to serve meals to the homeless in the area. This has been a longtime tradition adopted by all the House of Blues venues across the country, including the Myrtle Beach location.

Robert Simeone Executive Vice President of Operations for House of Blues says “Thanksgiving is a very important time of year for us at House of Blues and it means a lot to give back to our community. 2012 is also the 15th Anniversary for the Myrtle Beach venue and we appreciate all the support the community has provided these last 15 years. This is just one way that we can give back by providing food to those in need.”

In the ensuing 20 years, House of Blues has accumulated countless musical highlights including producing the Super Bowl XXXI Halftime Show, presenting the first-ever live-music broadband-pay-per-view event on the Internet, and forever changing the landscape of the world-famous Sunset Strip when House of Blues Los Angeles opened to a star-studded crowd featuring Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Spielberg, James Brown amongst many others.

Mark P. Frissora, Hertz Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said,  “Hertz is also excited to be one of the sponsors of the House of Blues' 20th Anniversary.  Since its inception, the House of Blues has been instrumental in celebrating diversity and brotherhood of world culture, values Hertz cherishes as a global organization with locations in more than 160 countries worldwide.  Hertz and House of Blues both value music and fun, educational experiences and we're pleased to be part of this year long celebration.”
