The Texas Rangers announced that the organization has entered into a four year agreement with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans extending through the 2014 season.

The agreement was announced this afternoon at a press conference at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach. As part of the agreement the Rangers will play an exhibition game in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, March 29 against an opponent to be determined.

The Rangers are returning to the Carolina League for the first time since having a farm club in Salem, VA in 1986. "The Texas Rangers are pleased to be entering into this agreement with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans" commented Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels. "This is an outstanding franchise and a great fit for our South Atlantic League affiliate in Hickory, NC. We anticipate a great partnership with the Pelicans."

The Pelicans began play in 1999 as the High-A Carolina League affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Managing Partner of Myrtle Beach Pelicans LP is Chuck Greenberg, who serves as the managing partner and CEO of the Texas Rangers. Greenburg's group, Rangers Baseball Express, completed its purchase of the Rangers last month.

On behalf of the Pelicans ownership group, we are excited to welcome the Rangers to Myrtle Beach," commented Greenberg, who headed the group that purchased the franchise in 2006. "Texas' scouting and player development efforts have produced probably the top minor league organization in professional baseball, and the Pelicans fans can expect to see a number of talented young players in the years to come."
