Myrtle Beach’s Best Golf Courses For Kids

By Vacation Myrtle Beach

For most families, a beach trip is part relaxation, part fun, and part stress over the cost of all the food, attractions, and shopping that occur over the course of a casual seven day stay.  Thankfully, 48 of Myrtle Beach’s golf courses are trying to give back to the families that spend their hard-earned money here at the beach by allowing junior golfers (defined as 16 years old and under) to play for free during the summer months.

Some of the courses that have joined this program are among the nation’s best.  However, not all of them are great for younger golfers.  Yes, the course may be pristine with $100 tee times but that doesn’t mean your young son or daughter won’t get frustrated if they can’t break 10 on any given hole.

The three courses listed below are perfect for younger golfers who are looking to play their first ‘big boy’ course while on vacation.

Pine Hills Golf Course at Myrtlewood

Pine Hills is a great option for younger golfers, which is why it’s first on this list.  The fairways are wide with plenty of room off the tee.  The greens are open and often allow for run-up shots that roll onto the green.  Also, the course isn’t overly long at just 5,692 yards from the gold tees, which is perfect for a novice family of four just looking to have some fun.  Plus, Pine Hills is a well-groomed course that will make your family feel like their playing a PGA course like the pros.

Tradition Golf Club

Depending on what tees you use, Tradition Golf Club can play from 4,100 yards to 6,800 yards, which makes it a good addition to this list.  The forward tees are great for golfers under five years old to get out on the course and actually play like their idols on the PGA tour.  That flexibility helps make Tradition one of the top family courses along the Grand Strand.

Pawley’s Plantation

From the yellow tees, Pawley’s Plantation plays a generous 5,500 yards with holes ranging from just 40 yards all the way up to 450 yards.  While the distance does allow for a few more generous shots into the green, this course sets up well for younger golfers with wide fairways and a lack of major obstacles off the tee.  The greens are a little tight with plenty of protection but the fairway generally rolls up to the green which will allow shorter shots to roll onto the green with the right bounce.
