What’s the Weather Like in May

By Samantha Norton

May is a wonderful time of year in Myrtle Beach! There are finally consistent temperatures trending towards warm, there isn’t too much humidity yet and there is so much to do on and off your resort!

The weather is friendly in May; you can expect temperatures in the high 70’s to high 80’s. Be prepared to spend a lot of time outside working on getting rid of that winter pale! On average May is a low precipitation month, with very few storm clouds to rain on your parade.

Something new to think about this year are the new tent laws that have been mandated in the city of Myrtle Beach and the city of North Myrtle Beach. The city of Myrtle Beach comes into effect on Memorial Day and no umbrella bigger than a 7 foot 6 inch diameter or less is allowed on the beach and will be enforced, punishable by fine.  The city of North Myrtle Beach will be in Effect May 15 through September 15 and only shading devices 7 feet 6 inches tall with a 9 foot diameter are allowed.

More exciting are the festivals and concerts that take place all over in May and through the summer months!

May is Military Appreciation Month in Myrtle Beach and there are a host of activities surrounding active and veteran military members. Join Myrtle Beach for the Ocean Boulevard Memorial Day Parade on May 24th, the parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a family picnic on the old Pavilion Site. The air will be filled with live music by the Andrew Thielen Big Band and stick around for lots of activities for the kids and special military exhibits.

Two popular festivals are the 33rd Annual Blue Crab Festival and the Fifth Annual Beach Blast! Christian Music Festival.
