Best Things to do in North Myrtle Beach

The city of North Myrtle Beach is located some 15 miles along the Grand Strand to the North of downtown Myrtle Beach. The city was created in 1968 and has grown to be one of the principal tourist centers along the Strand.

Three great Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts are located very close to North Myrtle Beach. These are Ocean Creek, Beach Cove and Sea Watch, and visitors to these and other VMB resorts close by may want to know what there is to do in North Myrtle Beach so they can save some gas money and travel time. Aside from the numerous beach activities, there are a number of other excellent attractions in and around the city.

Head for Barefoot Landing, a large shopping complex that straddles the Intracoastal Waterway about 4 miles from the city center. Before renovation the area was known as the Village of the Barefoot Traders, and was a small collection of unusual gift shops. Today it has become one of South Carolina’s most exciting tourist attractions, housing more than 100 retail shops, theaters, nightclubs, restaurants and other attractions. Barefoot Landing’s 16 restaurants offer varieties of food to suit every taste, and there are a further 11 stalls that serve a range of light food. For entertainment there’s the Alabama Theatre, a 7d cinema with physical effects to go along with the 4d screen, and live entertainment at House of Blues. For a real change take the dinner cruise along the Waterway on the Barefoot Princess Riverboat.

Fancy a little horseback riding? Just along the Strand and close to the border with North Carolina you’ll find the Inlet Point Plantation Stables. You can either join up with a mixed group, or for a little extra enjoy a private party ride. There are a good selection of horses offering rides that are suitable for every level of skill and for all ages. The rides are escorted by an experienced rider and several routes can be taken. Special rides include moonlight rides 3 days on either side of the full moon, and a sunset ride along the Waites Island beach. The stables are open all year round, and when staying at one of the Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts you can enjoy a discount when you present your VMB Card. This is an exciting way of exploring some of the state’s historic coastline.

Want to get in a bit of exercise  while also getting to see some great parts of the area? J&L Kayaking in North Myrtle Beach can help make that happen. They give guided tours of the area in kayaks or paddleboards and are sure to help create memories for any family vacationing in North Myrtle Beach.

The Grapefull Sisters Vineyard in Tabor City North Carolina is also a great North Myrtle Beach attraction. The picturesque vineyard grows Muscadine  grapes which make some of the best Muscadine wine, a local favorite. The vineyard offers tastings 6 days a week (Sundays excluded) from 1 to 6 p.m. With a VMB card guests can get a free wine tasting with the purchase of one or 10% off a case of wine.

There’s plenty more to keep you occupied in North Myrtle Beach. If you fancy some deep sea fishing or a scenic cruise check out the Hurricane Fleet Fishing Center in Calabash, just over the NC border. You can break the journey home to North Myrtle Beach by dining at one of Little River’s many restaurants, where you’ll find an excellent cross section of foods to suit every taste.
