Things to Do in Myrtle Beach in May

Hello May! We welcome May 2025 with some marvelous things to do in Myrtle Beach. Some big events this month include Cinco de Mayo celebrations, 5K runs, live music events, Pelicans baseball, and a world-famous seafood festival! As summer weather approaches, these festivals and events are a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the warm Myrtle Beach weather.

 

Ballroom Dance

  • When: Thursday, May 1st from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: St. John’s Hall, Myrtle Beach

The Ballroom Dance Preservation Society hosts several events every year. Come dance or just watch in casual clothing and a comfortable pair of shoes (leather or suede bottoms are best). A fancy gown or tuxedo is not required. You may bring snacks to share at your table; water is provided. Tickets are $10 each for members and $15 for non-members.

  • When: Friday, May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Conway, Town Green at 200 Laurel Street

Conway Downtown Alive will host Groovin’ on the Green, an outdoor Friday night concert series, on May 2 with Chocolate Chip & Company, May 9 with Special Blend Experience, May 16 with Whiskey Run, May 23 with Band on Fire, and May 30 with King Tide. Bring your own lawn chair and dance away. In addition to music, the Chicora Car Club will host a classic car cruise-in each night. Limited space is available. Spring Live Music Series

  • When: Every Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the month of May
  • Where: Barefoot Landing, 4898 Hwy. 17 S. North Myrtle Beach

The Spring Live Music Series continues through May. Various local groups of all genres will perform in the Dockside Village at Barefoot Landing. Grab a complimentary chair (while supplies last) or bring your own and settle in for free entertainment before or after enjoying dinner at one of Barefoot Landing’s many restaurants.

Live Music At The Brewery

  • When: Fridays in May from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery, 4924 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Motown Tribute Show-Motor City Musical

  • When: Various May dates with showtimes at 7 p.m.
  • Where: GTS Theatre, 1220 Port Drive, Myrtle Beach

Come celebrate 60+ years of Motown Music with an evening of soulful entertainment as you go on a musical journey through the history of Motown. Motown is a genre that broke down social barriers and infused the music of the ’60s and ’70s with life and rhythm.

 

Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 3rd, gates open at 10 a.m.
  • Where: 96 S Ocean Blvd, North Myrtle Beach

Make plans to attend the 8th Annual “Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival.” Scheduled to perform are Band of Oz, Jim Quick & Coastline, and The California Honeydrops. The emcee will be Carolina Beach Music Awards Hall of Fame DJ Chad Sain, along with The Surf DJs/Show hosts. Chairs and coolers are permitted. This event is rain or shine.

 

Brookgreen Gardens Spring Wine Festival

  • When: Saturday, May 3rd, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens, 1931 Brookgreen Dr, Murrells Inlet

Plan to attend the 5th annual food and wine event at Brookgreen Gardens! Enjoy wine tastings and live music in the Oak Grove near Pegasus. An event wristband includes admission to the Spring Wine Festival event, 10 tasting tickets, and a commemorative wine glass. Additional tickets are available for purchase for wine tastings, games, and other activities.

The iconic, eye-catching inflatable known as the “Worlds Largest Duck” looming large at six stories tall, is making a splash in the Myrtle Beach area to spread awareness about water safety to travelers and residents. “Mama Duck” will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from May 8th through 10th and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 11th. Don’t miss out on Splash Safe Day with fun, interactive water safety activities hosted by the YMCA of Coastal Carolina on May 10th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Yoga In The Yard

  • When: Sundays in May from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery, 4924 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Join Yoga in the Yard at Crooked Hammock Brewery on Sundays. At the end of the week, everyone needs some time to re-center themselves and cleanse the spirit with a cold beer if needed (the first one is free for 21+ reserved). Their Yoga in the Yard series with Sea Yoga will guide you through a relaxing physical & mental workout. All levels are welcome, and remember your yoga mat! Spots can be reserved for $15 each.

 

Cinco De Mayo Events

Taco Mundo Cinco De Mayo Weekend Fiesta

  • When: Friday, May 2nd – Monday, May 5th
  • Where: Taco Mundo at Barefoot Landing, 4732 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach

Hola Amigos! May 2nd – May 5th is the Cinco De Mayo weekend of Fiesta Celebration this year. Come watch live music performances from Friday to Monday featuring Kelli J & Laranza, If Birds Could Fly, Painted Man, DJ Wolfe, and City Lights.

  • Day 1: Friday, May 2nd – Live music with Kelli J & Laranza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Day 2: Saturday, May 3rd – Live music with If Birds Could Fly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Myrtle Beach Cinco De Mayo Bar Crawl

5th Annual Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

Come to the 5th Annual Cinco de Mayo at Sol y Luna Latin Cantina, all day for two days, indoor & outdoor. The Fiesta will include live entertainment, food & drink specials, and giveaways! It’s quite a fiesta!

 

Cinco De Mayo Party Excursion

  • When: Monday, May 5th from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
  • Where: Pie-Eyed Parrot Happy Hour Cruise, 4097 Hwy 17 Business, Murrells Inlet

Join the annual Cinco De Mayo Party Excursion aboard the Pie Eyed Parrot “Happy Hour” Cruise. Enjoy drinks, music, and spectacular views. 70th Annual Sun Fun Festival

  • When: Friday, May 16th to Sunday, May 18th
  • Where: Plyler Park, 1100 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Come watch the Sun Fun Parade on Saturday, May 17th at 10 a.m. as it travels from 8th Avenue North to 15th Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach! Join the 43rd Annual World Famous Blue Crab Festival, one of the largest festivals in the Southeast. It’s consistently been awarded the Best Annual Event/Festival on the Grand Strand for 8+ years. Bring your family & friends to enjoy fresh, local seafood from a waterfront restaurant or get your favorite festival food fix. Enjoy scenic views, live beach music, arts and craft vendors, and other activities. Satellite parking and a shuttle are available. Brookgreen Gardens Memorial Day Weekend Run

  • When: Sunday, May 25th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Where: Brookgreen Gardens

Join the 12th Annual Brookgreen Garden 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run! Or choose the virtual option and run/walk with them from your location! Run between the beautiful oak trees and scenery of Brookgreen Gardens during Memorial Day Weekend. Located south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, this run is one of the few evening races in the area. Register for the 5K and compete for prizes here.
