Things to Do in Myrtle Beach in August 2024

Keep on smiling because it’s still summertime! August has arrived, and it's the last official month of summer! Get ready for a month packed with family fun, entertainment, and excitement in Myrtle Beach! If you will be in the area in the month of August, you’ll have plenty of options to keep you busy during your stay. The month includes free concerts, free nightly entertainment, and plenty of fireworks to round out the summer.

Broadway’s Summer Nights

Where: Broadway at the Beach, 1325 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach
When: Ongoing, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly, weather-permitting, through August 25th


Enjoy nightly summer entertainment throughout the summer season at Broadway at the Beach. The fireworks extravaganza returns on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are also several venues with live music on certain nights.

  • Mr. Nigel’s Dance Party in Center Court: Monday - Thursday, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
    Character Appearances in Center Court: Monday, Thursday & Sunday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Over the Moon Variety Show in Heroes Harbor: Monday & Sunday, 8 p.m. & 9 p.m.
    Fireworks are Tuesday and Friday evenings through August 9th at 10 p.m. (there is no firework show on July 5th)

Cool off at the Water Park

Where: Myrtle Waves Water Park, 3000 Mr. Joe White Avenue, Myrtle Beach


Ride the waves this summer at the Myrtle Waves Water Park, South Carolina’s largest wave pool! This family-friendly attraction has Water Slides, Tube Slides, Mat Slide, FlowRider, Kids' Play Area, and MUCH more. They have a variety of cafes and snack stands of pizza, salads, burgers, funnel cakes, ice cream and more. Forgot sunscreen?  Make sure you visit the Tropical Trading post where you will find bathing suits, towels, souvenirs and everything else you’ll need for a day in the sun! They also book birthday parties and large groups at special rates.

 

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing National Aquarium Tour

Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach has a game changing partnership with Nintendo of America to host an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Aquarium Tour experience. Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience

When: Now Through September 22, 2024 From 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. (last entry 9 PM)
Where: Broadway at the Beach, Building 52 (Beside the Dave & Buster's on the Avenue), 1325 Celebrity Cir, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577

Come to Broadway at the Beach for a beautiful temporary exhibition. It blends over 300 of Van Gogh’s most celebrated works with projection technology and a specially curated musical soundtrack. Guests are transported back in time learning about Van Gogh’s background while seeing hundreds of iconic masterpieces, including classics such as "The Starry Night", "Sunflowers", and "Café Terrace at Night”.  Van Gogh’s spectacular paintings appear on projection-swathed walls. Vincent’s own dreams, thoughts, and words are set to a symphonic score while guests are wrapped up in his shifting, swirling, and colorful flowers, cafés, and stunning landscapes, creating an unmatched narrative experience. SummerFest!

Head up to Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach for fun all throughout August!

  • Fireworks: Check out the fireworks over the lake every Monday in August at 10 p.m. for a spectacular free show! (weather-permitting).
  • Nick Pike: Enjoy the entertainment of Nick Pike, semi-finalist on “America’s Got Talent”, as he rides a unicycle, juggles, and more! He will be performing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7 p.m. in the Dockside Village section of Barefoot Landing.
  • Strolling Characters: Every Tuesday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., kids can meet and greet superheroes, princesses, and more! Get your camera ready for this memorable photo op!
  • Live Music: Enjoy live music from Sweet Sweet, a folk group from Myrtle Beach every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday on the Dockside Village Stage from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • There will also be additional performances throughout the month such as Tropical Jammers Steel Drums every Sunday and Monday. ** Activities are weather-permitting.

Ripley’s Attractions

Ripley's opened three new attractions to their Ocean Boulevard location in 2023! These new attractions are miniature golf, an illusion lab, and a haunted adventure. They also made additions to their mirror maze. Ripley’s has been a Myrtle Beach attraction since 1976, and plans on continuing family-friendly fun for years to come.

Ripley’s three attractions, and one expanding attraction:

  • Ripley’s Crazy Golf –  Let’s PAR-TEE! Ripley’s has added miniature golf to its family of attractions. Ripley’s Crazy Golf is a three-floor, hole-in-one, indoor experience that will have you putting your skills to the test. From interactive holes, and challenges to swings and selfie-worthy shots, even 360 degree loops and epic glowing lights, this isn’t your average course! Put your skills to the test and get ready for a tee-rific time!
  • Ripley’s Illusion Lab – Let’s put the brain to the test! Take a step into a world of optical, photographic, and interactive illusions. View things in a new and strange perspective.
  • Ripley’s Haunted Adventure – Do you have the “guts” to go through the Haunted Adventure? A murder mystery comes alive through the twists and turns of a haunted manor. Can you find the clues needed to catch the killer or will you become the next victim?
  • Ripley’s Mirror Maze – Mirror, mirror on the walls are now bigger and more alluring than ever! Walking through the maze, you will encounter endless mirrored hallways, infinity rooms, and surreal surprises!

 

Pirates & Princesses Adventure Breakfast

Where: The Hangout, 1181 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach


Join The Hangout’s Pirates and Princesses Adventure Breakfast. Fill your belly, bob for treasure, and join the royal court with pirates and princesses. There are two free daily shows at 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. The all-you-can-eat breakfast for purchase includes Biscuits & Gravy, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, & Breakfast Potatoes. For an additional charge, daily specials such as French toast, pancakes, and fruit plates can be purchased. For adults, Bloody Marys and Mimosas are available for an additional charge as well. Reservations are available 60 days in advance.

 

Free Myrtle Beach Fireworks

Where: Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, and Myrtle Beach Pelicans
When: Select nights throughout the month

Barefoot Landing hosts a FREE weekly fireworks extravaganza every Monday night at 10 p.m. in August. Broadway at the Beach will also host fireworks every Tuesday night this summer, with additional fireworks shows on Friday, August 2 and Friday, August 9. These fireworks shows start at 10 p.m. at both locations.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will also host post-game fireworks every Friday night when they have a home game!

Ultimate Reptile Show

When: Saturday, August 17th from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 18th from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Where: Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 N Oak Street, Myrtle Beach


Immerse yourself in the world of reptiles featuring educational exhibits, presentations, displays, an opportunity to interact with reptile experts, reptile photo opportunities, and more. Whether you’re an animal lover or reptile enthusiast, a curious learner, or a family looking for a unique and educational experience, this may be a good fit for you! Explore the world of reptiles with the entire family! Admission is $15 for both days; children 6-12 are $5 each, and children 5 and under are free.

 

Craftsmen’s Summer Classic Art & Craft Festival

When: August 2nd and 3rd from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and August 4th from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 North Oak Street
Price: Adults (age 13+) $9 each | Children (age 6-12) $1 each

Once you pay for entry you can enjoy additional entry with your FREE Return Pass which can be obtained at the Show Office before leaving the show.

 

Myrtle Beach Farmer’s Markets

As the summer continues several Farmer’s Markets around the area will be in full swing offering local goods, crafts, and treats. Vendors include artisan crafters and local farmers.

  • Surfside Beach Farmer’s Market → Surfside Drive and Willow Drive North, Surfside Beach; Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Downtown Conway Farmer’s Market → Corner of Laurel Street and 2nd Avenue, Conway; Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Deville Street Farmer’s Market → Deville Street, Market Common; purchase locally grown produce, baked goods, and handmade items on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Music On Main Concert Series

When: Every Thursday this summer, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Main Street, North Myrtle Beach

The Music on Main concert series is a favorite among visitors and locals. Located along Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, this summer-long live music experience on Thursdays brings some of the best area musical talents to the sunny shores of North Myrtle Beach.

If you arrive early, be sure to explore the restaurants and shops while waiting for the music to start. Grab some refreshments or dine at Hoskins, a local favorite restaurant or Dirty Don’s Oyster Bar and Grill. Wine Therapy or the Main Street Taphouse are great places to grab a pre-show drink. If you or your family are looking for a dessert, you can stop by Whit's Frozen Custard, Melt, or Butter & Whisk for a sweet treat! Enjoy!

Sound Of Summer

When: Now through September
Where: North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, 150 Citizens Circle, Little River

Enjoy an evening listening to live music at the amphitheater at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. Each concert will feature a different family-friendly music band. Bring a beach chair or blanket, but coolers, outside food, and beverages are not allowed. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. “Simply Shania” by Shania Twain Tribute is scheduled for August 16th.

 

Movies at McLean

When: The Second Friday of Each Month Through October
Where: McLean Park, 93 Oak Dr, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582

Enjoy a FREE movie under the stars at McLean Park in North Myrtle Beach! Movies will be held on the second Friday of each month through October. All movies shown are G or PG-rated and are subject to change depending on availability. Bring your beach chair or blankets for a great family night or date night. The North Myrtle Beach Lions Club will be selling popcorn, refreshments, and drinks. The movies begin at 7 p.m. at McLean Park, 93 Oak Drive, North Myrtle Beach. The 2024 August movie is scheduled to be Migration on August 9th!!

 

Yoga in the Yard

When: Every Sunday 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Where: Crooked Hammock Brewery, 4924 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach

Take some self-care time this summer to relax, re-center, and cleanse yourself with a cold 16 oz beer (first one’s on them). Their Yoga in the Yard series with Sea Yoga guides you through a relaxing physical & mental workout, where the style of yoga varies every week. All levels are welcome, don’t forget your yoga mat! Escape Game

Where: Broadway at the Beach

Let the games begin! Can you complete the mission and escape in time? South Carolina’s first-ever 'The Escape Game' opened in Myrtle Beach at Broadway at the Beach; it’s one of 37 locations across the United States. Escape Game is a 60-minute interactive game, where teams work together to find clues in multiple rooms to complete a mission. The multiple rooms to explore include Train Through Time, Prison Break, The Depths, Special Ops: Mysterious Market and Gold Rush. Players are able to choose a variety of themes and difficulties.

 

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball season is in full swing for the 2024 season, and you won’t want to miss a single pitch. Tickets start at just $14 to up to only $20 per person. The best part is, there’s not a bad seat in the house! Summer home games include Columbia Fireflies, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, Augusta Greenjackets, Charleston RiverDogs, and more! The Pelicans also feature several promotions throughout the month including:

  • Sunday → Pre-game catch on the field, Kids 12 & under will also be able to run the bases after each Sunday fireworks show.
  • Tuesday → $2 Tacos and $3 Tallboys (until 8 p.m.)
  • Wednesday → Half Price Hebrew National hot dogs (all game long)
  • Thursday → $2 Bud cans and $3 glasses of Duplin winery wine (until 8 p.m.)
  • Family Friday + Fireworks →  $25 family meal deal (4 hot dogs, 4 soft drinks, and a bucket of popcorn) and kid-friendly themes. Post-game fireworks, and kids 12 & under can run the bases after the fireworks show and receive a free Fun Zone wristband for SkyZone Trampoline Park with the donation of an item from the approved Backpack Buddies list. All items will help provide food for the hungry children of Horry County.
  • Saturday → $2 Michelob Ultra 12 oz. cans, $3 glasses of Duplin Winery Wine, and $25 mega drinks 48 oz. (until 7 p.m.)
