The speaker, Tierney Rosenstock has been interested in orchids and their ecology since 2006. Orchids have mesmerized humans dating back centuries, even thousands of years. You can see orchids in your own backyard. This lecture will discuss orchids indigenous to South Carolina, their habitats, and their ecology.

Visit the Lowcountry Zoo

While you're at Brookgreen Gardens, be sure to visit the Lowcountry Zoo and say hi to some of the area's native animals. The zoo is home to dozens of animals including otters, alligators, red foxes, owls, and hawks. You may even see a wild turkey, fox squirrels, and eagles perusing the facility. The animals have the daily, high quality of care and attention they receive due to the compassionate, hardworking zoo staff. The zoo is a favorite among all ages and provides plenty of learning opportunities through self-guided tours or included daily feeding tours. Admission to the Lowcountry Zoo is free with regular garden admission.

If you're looking for some place that's free to walk around and is indoors the Myrtle Beach Art Museum might be the place for you and your family to visit. Artwork created by local, regional, national, and international artists are displayed in a wide range of mediums that include paintings, sculptures, crafts, and photography. The museum is a knowledgeable, and artistic destination for the budding artist in the family. The Myrtle Beach Art Museum is open year-round.

 

Create art at Board & Brush

Dive under the sea at Ripley's Aquarium

Dive into the underwater world of wonders, located at Broadway at the Beach. Meet and discover some of the world's most fascinating sea creatures. Ripley's Aquarium includes two levels of fascinating attractions. The upper-level displays include exhibits like the Rio Amazon, Penguin Playhouse, Planet Jellies and Friendship Flats, where you can touch stingrays. The lower-level exhibits like Rainbow Rock, Sloth Valley, and Dangerous Reef. It takes guests on a slow-moving 340-foot glide path through an underwater tunnel that is surrounded by some of the ocean's fiercest creatures, including sharks and eels!

  • Annual Father-Daughter Dance | Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Calling all fathers and father figures alike, to take their young special lady to this 14th annual semi-formal event. Make memories that will last a lifetime!   • Penguin Encounter: Add this fun option to your ticket for $69.99 per person to be able to touch a real-life penguin and learn from a staff expert about this unique animal during the 30-minute encounter.
  • Sloth Encounter: Add this fun option to your ticket for $100 + tax per person to step foot inside Sloth Valley with an experienced keeper to hang out with Rico and Cleo, their two-toed sloths, during their feeding time. The keeper will teach you everything there is to know about their new sloth pals. 
  • Stingray Experience: Visit the Friendship Flats during your visit for this additional up close and personal experience that can be purchased for $75 per person; this 30-minute activity allows you to swim with the stingrays! Participants must provide their own swimsuit, towel, and flip flops.
  • PJ Party with The Penguins: Bring your family and friends in a minimum group size of 15 participants in this overnight adventure! Your group will complete a scavenger hunt, enjoy a late-night snack, learn about penguins, and camp out next to the penguin exhibit. $100+ tax per person. Time: 8 p.m. - 8 a.m.
  • Glass Bottom Boat Adventure: For just $9.99 plus tax per person, you can ride aboard a glass-bottom boat in the aquarium shark tank.

 

Spending the day at The Market Common

Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys Island

The Hammock Shops Village has been the heart of Pawleys Island since 1938. Have a fun-filled day with family, where you can shop at one of their 21 stores, dine at Local or Bisqit, play at the playground, and learn about history. To name a few of the shops that call them home are Original Hammock Shop that has been open since 1938, and Whitmire fine jewelry which specializes in handmade Pawleys Island shells and other beach jewelry. You'll also find clothing and wine boutiques, candles, artwork, home decor, a general store and more shops.

 

Soar high on The SkyWheel

There's no better way to take in the sights of the Myrtle Beach area than nearly 200 feet in the air in your own private, enclosed (and temperature controlled!) gondola. Gather up to six family and friends for this unique flight. The SkyWheel, located by the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, is open daily throughout January. Tickets are $20 for adults (ages 12 and up) and $16 for children (ages 3 to 11), and free for children ages 2 and under.
