EdVenture Children's Museum

Market Common, Myrtle Beach’s thriving outdoor shopping and dining district, recently welcomed EdVenture, a children’s museum. The new attraction opened mid-February and is a welcomed addition to the popular family neighborhood.

Boasting ‘something for everyone’. EdVenture offers a variety of interactive exhibits that focus on STEM education. STEM education is rising in popularity and the exciting, hands-on experience makes exploring traditional school subjects fun through relatable and engaging exhibits. Specifically, EdVenture Myrtle Beach will focus on educating children in the fields of astronomy and aviation, which pays homage to the historic former Air Force grounds where Market Common now sits.

But just what can you see and do at Myrtle Beach’s latest museum? Here are a few of the exhibits:

  • Moon Landing: Child-sized ‘house’ with 1960’s interior, looping TV of the original moon landing film, telescope with interactive moon view
  • Space Ship: Interactive space climbing structure with a hands-on mission control panel
  • Flight Simulator: two model aircrafts with real plane propellers, a real aircraft that visitors can explore, and a full flight simulator ride
  • Coin Vortex: A well that introduces the concepts of gravity and centripetal force
  • Dedicated ‘3 and younger’ area for the museum’s littlest visitors

Elements of science, engineering, math, and technology are flawlessly incorporated throughout the entire 3,500 square foot space to engage and educate children of all ages. Local partnerships with Chapin Library, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, and the Myrtle Beach Airport are an important part in helping fun and support this new venture.

The museum also plans to host several educational events in the future. Though no specific events have been announced yet for Myrtle Beach, other museum locations offer events around holidays, speaking and educational initiatives, and fun themed events, like ‘super hero day’. Stay tuned for news on upcoming museum special events!

Located at the corner of Howard Avenue and Nevers Street in the main Market Common district, EdVenture is conveniently located near other popular draws, like Gordon Biersch Brewery, Seacoast Artists Gallery, The Roasted Bean Coffee Shop, and Valor Memorial Gardens. A trip to EdVenture is the perfect excuse to make a whole day out of it and enjoy everything that Market Common has to offer!

For children specifically, Market Common offers several parks and playgrounds, including the area’s first ADA-friendly space, Savannah’s Playground. Other kid-friendly draws include the Grand 14 movie theater, 810 bowling and billiards, and Pedego electric bike rentals. For a quick refuel, try a pie at Ultimate California Pizza or south of the border fare at Nacho Hippo.

EdVenture is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free for members and only $8 for non-members, with discounts for military members, educators, and seniors. Children under 2 years of age are free.
